Setting the East Ablaze rules question
« on: August 18, 2022, 04:49:25 PM »
I hate to start a new thread for a single question, (but I'll probably have more as time progresses) but I figured since the book both cites this forum in it's acknowledgements and I see many AARs for the game I figured this is the place to ask.

So. How the **** do you determine casualties? I got the rules yesterday and have given them a quick read through and I couldn't find one sentence that says anything about wounds or casualties. Now I could have missed it, or I'm just dense, eithers a possibility, but I'm assuming if a unit is hit, the hits are automatically counted as wounds/KIAs and models are removed? Is this the case? Or are casualties entirely moral based? As in the only way a squad is destroyed is if they route off the table?

A 'hit' in StEA on standard figures (i.e., infantry or cavalry figures) = a casualty. So if you fire 3D6 from a LMG at a ten-figure unit and roll 1, 6, 6, that would be two hits and thus two of the ten figures removed.

If you hit an officer or specialist figure they roll saving throws as per the rules.

Hits on heavy weapons and vehicles are determined by the damage effect table.

Does that help clarify?

Yes it does, thank you kindly. These rules are a new experience for me, and very different from what I'm accustomed to playing. I'm so well trained/accustomed to a bit more detail or involvement on causing casualties in rules that for some reason this really threw me for a loop!

These are fairly fast-play skirmish rules rather than anything more complex so generally it's a what you see is what you get! Morale plays a big role though in breaking units and armies so don't overlook that part as you get going - drop any other questions in here if you need!

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I'm coming from games like Bolt Action (And WH40k before that eeeewww) into the setting and rules I've always dreamed up. Games like StEA, Fistful of Lead, and Beyond the Empire. It's a breath of fresh air!

Expect more questions to come. Thanks a bunch. I'll have to start a thread for my BoB projects soon..
