I pin all metal and most plastic as well. For metal to keep the head on, but for both because for me the precise sight-line of the figure makes or breaks the figure, and to a lesser degree the length of the neck. For example, I'm building some Fireforge figures and if you just glue the heads on as intended the figures are looking up in a very unnatural way, which jumps out at me when I look at other people's builds online. And the necks might be a bit short. I pin with a fairly thin and soft metal wire which is cheap and not too much drilling effort. Once pinned there's a bit of give to position the head looking forward, and then once dry I fill the gap with greenstuff.
