Papal Dragoons for the Risorgimento
« on: August 25, 2022, 04:16:03 PM »

https://yarkshiregamer.blogspot.com/2022/08/28mm-papal-dragoons-for-risorgimento.html

I've been neglecting the blog for a while (link above) but I thought I'd put a post together for these guys.

This is the final unit for my Papal Army for the Battle of Mentana. Unfortunately the Perrys still haven't released their French Franco Prussian Infantry so I'm a bit stuck finishing off the Project for the end of October when I was hoping to put the game on at the FIASCO show in Leeds.

The figures are from Gringo 40s, they are big 28mm and not always avaliable, thankfully I managed to sweet talk the owner to make me some. For the pendants out there I know the flag is wrong :-)

More pics and a link to the latest Yarkshire Gamer Monthly Wargames Update on the Utubes on the link above.

Until next time, Sithee

Lovely

I have their Neapolitans and redshirts. They are excellent figures.

Gorgeous!
Em dezembro de '81
Botou os ingleses na roda
3 a 0 no Liverpool
Ficou marcado na história
E no Rio não tem outro igual

By the by, Perry Miniatures have released the Chasseurs in metal, which gives you a fifth of the French contingent.

For the Papal forces, I reckon a combo of their ACW zouaves with kepis from the other ACW boxes would work for Papal Zouaves.  The Legion d’Antibes could be done using the Foundry Crimean War French in kepis with just the addition of a plume. The short shako looks pretty much like a kepi anyway. Carabineri Esteri could probably be made using the Crimean War French as well. No doubt you have already thought of these but there are useful uniform plates here:

Cheers, I've beat you to it, I'm afraid, Papal Zouaves using Perrys ACW

Legion d'Antibes with Foundry French Crimean with Shako and added plume, Carabineri Esteri with the same figs. Officers from various Perrys War of the Triple Alliance command sets and Perry French Guns. I will do a review of the whole Papal Army soon.

Very nice Ken.  You might be able to do something with this dragoon flag.

Out of curiosity, what rules are you planning on using? It’s a relatively small action, so all of the grand-tactical rules for the period seem a mismatch. I’m looking for something myself that could be used with up to a brigade or so on each side.

Hi Carlos,

Not quite decided yet, all the rules I used, regardless of Battle size are Battalion based. I am just over halfway with the figure build and will start looking at rules soon. I have a copy of Picketts Charge as a starting point and if I like that I will adapt it for Mentana.
