Victorian armed civilians help
« on: September 01, 2022, 07:33:14 AM »
Ladies and gentlemen, a bit of help please.
Looking for some victorian armed civilians, ex-militaires and the odd figure.
I´m slowly building a small force of deserters and discontented for a kind of revolt.
I already have some copplestone sailors and some artizan designs infantry for the second afghan war plus the odd boer and african riflemen but i wanted to mix some 10 or 12 civilians.
Where can i find them?

I already saw the foundry casting room figures, artizan and copplestone but cant remember more options.

Maybe the Perry Miniatures ACW Rioters and their Mafeking Volunteers can be useful.

How early in the Victorian age do you want them for? I have a similar project based around 1839 and have collected suitable armed figures from the Empress Maori wars range, both the armed civvies and conversions of the sailors. Boot Hill do armed figures in both frock and tail coats for the Alamo and then you have the Perry ACW range. Northstar have Dickensian figures that can be converted as well.

If you want later Victorians, IIRC Foundry/Casting Room have armed civilian figures. Highgate Miniatures have some armed types and Ironclad have various armed civilian types. Searching '28mm VSF' should find more.

Admittedly for a slightly later age but you want some wounded veterans on crutches and the like you could always look at the Eureka range. I suspect most would pass muster as folk from earlier times and the actual gangster they were based on operated not far from me in the late Victorian, early Edwardian period. If you are interested in any particular figure, feel free to drop me a line as I can always purchase singles at the shop when it opens, otherwise Eureka UK stock them.

Thank you all for your recomendations.
The winner is Keith with the Northstar IHMN Steampunk. Its these types i´m after. :)

My idea is to have a bunch of varied figures to do deserters and discontented (mostly Irish and Welsh and the odd British and Scot) revolting against the regular army because of the taxations and lack of payment plus the exploitation.
Maybe i get the patience and the ability to build 2 neffs and do some piratical actions. :D

Yeah another group to look up in the Perry Bros civil war range is their dismounted Confederate Cavalry and Bushwackers. They are mostly in civilian dress and armed with a mix of pistols, muzzle loaded rifles and shotguns.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Perry armed civilians in their Mafeking range might work for you.

I have some of the Northstar figures they are very nice.

Another option to look at is Ironclad Miniatures…

I think someone makes Boxer Rebellion armed European civilians.  Can’t think of the name at the moment.

Also try, for 28mm, the Boxer Rebellion range from Old Glory. Look for the European Civilian Volunteers (which represent the Carving Knife Brigade figures), as they are all rifle-armed civilians (with knives tied on their rifles) that would be perfect.
