Stop The Truck!
« on: October 14, 2022, 06:07:12 PM »
Realising we hadn't played our Cartel game for over 2 years we decided to relax with an attack on on armoured car on it's way to the bank. Also we were too knackered after Partizan to do something overly strenuous  lol

The local Sicarios were spread out around town (10 in all) and then we diced for the arrival point of the truck and it's escort.
The truck had a couple of armed guards and was escorted by a squad car with 4 federal police inside and a SWAT truck with a squad inside.
All other vehicles moved randomly around the grid and if they left the table they didn't come back.

This could best be described as the heist where nothing went right  :D
The random arrival of the truck saw it roll past 4 Sicarios hanging out near the diner but as they had their weapons stowed the Federales didn't note them but they did notice the LAW's rocket that screamed their way and exploded just by the rear wheels of the squad car disabling the vehicle and causing the Federales to bail out. Now they noticed the Sicarios and everyone went for their guns - it was a bit like a western  lol
The truck and the SWAT van carried on, hoping to circle the block and find another way to the bank - the disabled squad car had blocked the usual route.

As the shooting had now started the truck could radio for assistance and the randomly placed police vehicles diced to respond - they were very slow  :(
In the meantime the truck and escort were taking fire from the garage and from the roof of the drive thru where the female sniper was so badly placed she couldn't get a shot off - more of this later.
Back at the squad car 2 more Sicarios turned up from down the street from where they had unsuccessfully tried to break into the bank loading bay and the police were caught in a crossfire; they did however manage to kill one Sicario and 2 others dived into the diner in a panic.

The next few turns were what could be best called 'a series of unfortunate events'
At the squad car shootout, one of the Sicarios shot out the diner windows and becoming exposed was downed by one of the Federales, the 2 Sicarios down the street found that their pistols were outmatched by the police assault carbines so headed for cover but one policeman did finally succumb to his wounds - flack vests had kept them in the fight.
At the truck the SWAT guys bailed out and took the fight to the Sicarios, gunning down one of the villains in the garage yard and setting the dog after the other which promptly got distracted by a cat and chased it off table! >:(
The truck itself suddenly developed steering trouble and crashed into the playground becoming a sitting duck for the gunman on the roof who did get a couple of shots off but then all activity on the roof then stopped when the female sniper slugged him in frustration at blocking her shot and they tolled around on the roof in a vicious melee which saw the Sicario flee the rooftop bleeding from a wound.  lol

The final piece of farce was 2 of the responding squad cars smashed into each other at an intersection and the officers then took fire from a Sicario on a roof overlooking the crash who had done nothing all day and couldn't believe his luck :o Ultimately the weight of return fire drove him from the roof but quite how the crash would be explained remained to be seen.

Clearly the ambush was a failure and the remaining Sicarios faded away leaving 3 gang members behind. The police hadn't exactly shone and 2 of their guys were dead but the gold could now get to the bank.
As a game it was great fun; the rules were our own 'A Fistful Of Cocoa Leaves' which are essentially a rewrite of the popular 'Fistful of Lead' rules which give a simple and effective game albeit somewhat lacking in realism.
The various moments of farce were from Jokers being played with unusual regularity which allowed the player to inflict a disaster on his opponent.

Not exactly a “milk run” then !
Great sounding game Ian.
Nice to see you had FUN.
Reality went out of the window at an early stage by the sound of it  lol
Nice to see figures, and terrain being used, to create an exciting storyline.
Keep it up.

Nice looking game Ian.
Who, soon to be sacked, played the Cops?

All that effort & the robbers never even got to see the lovely
new lift in the bank.
 lol lol lol

I got to play the cops Pete  ::)
The assumption was that the Sicarios would hit the bank just as the gold was being unloaded and so we could have had a shoot out in the bank and used the wonderful lift, especially as DEA agents were waiting inside. Oh well, best laid plans and all that.

I must say, this was quite the dust-up.  We use Jokers in FfoL is a very similar way.  It leads to some very interesting and amusing turns of events...

Great game and AAR.  Well done!

Looks cool - what did you change in in the fistful of lead rules?

Lars.
Types of weapons, ranges, some of the reloading aspects a bit on movement; nothing drastic, just enough to make it a bit different.
