Bearwoodman in Frostgrave

Thank for the comments guys!  Sorry it has taken me so long to reply, I have been distracted and now fallen further behind with my chronicling of my adventures in Frostgrave.

I have decided to put less pressure on myself to write something interesting in each post and simply get the pictures up.  So here are my pictures from The Thaw of the Lich Lord - The Final Battle.

Note the large clock tower that my friend made especially for the occasion.

Death Cultists prepare to defend the Fountain.

Battle is joined.

The cowboys archers take the frozen water

The game itself was rather one sided in the end; I took control of the Lich Lord and his freshly painted horde, but struggled to defend myself against the combined might of three powerful wizards and their warbands now working (for a change) in concert.  But it felt like a climactic spectacle.

Looks like it was a hoot.  Nice yo see the nose in action.  We have been playing through and are getting ready for the bone wheel soon.

Thanks snitcythedog - The Bone Wheel is a fun scenario I hope you enjoy it!

The Maze of Malcor

Scenario 1 - The Relic Room

I ordered the Maze of Malcor supplement when it was released but was a little bit disheartened when I first read it and released how many new creatures were required and the extent of the scenario specific modelling involved.  But then another member of my Frostgrave group bought it and was very enthusiastic about giving it a go, and the enthusiasm was infections!

Cabinets!

For Scenario One the key terrain feature required is display cabinets.  I used orange hollow plastic jenga pieces as the starting point – these are about the right size as described I the rules save for being about half the stipulated length.  However as we were planning to play the scenario with 4 wizards and therefore needed 16 cabinets we thought the reduction in size was acceptable.

There were two basic designs, one being a deep cabinet with a flat glass top, the other being shallower with an angled top and drawers beneath.  I put together two prototypes and then my friends and I built the rest in a sort of production line.

Once they were primed we split them between us to create contents using clay or whatever was in our bits box.

The glass was made from transparent plastic from toy packaging.

And here is photo from the actual game:

But even with 16 filled and glazed display cabinets there was more we had to do before we could start the campaign...

Cabinets came out great.  Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

Cheers snitcythedog - there is plenty more to come, although I have not attempted a Chronomasters Tower... yet!

Bogmen

One of the most intriguing new creatures potentially required for Scenario One are Bogmen; human cadavers with the insides removed and replaced with peat.  Essentially skin sacks filled with decomposing plant matter sewn together they flop about alarmingly (although not particularly dangerously) and release unpleasant gas when pierced.  Northstar do produce a single metal Bogman figure but it does not really fit how I imagine these poor creatures to look, and in any event we needed several.

I am definitely no figure sculptor and when I have tried previously the figures just look like Mr Blobby.  But then I though that might actually work for a Bogman, so I and my 9 year old daughter had a go.  Here are my efforts:

And here are my daughter's

Painted up:

I see these creatures as being almost (not not quite) comically pathetic, while also being repulsive and tragic.

Between the saggy, bloated sculpt and the paint they work really well.

Thanks both!

Shrieking Dogs

Next I need some large and almost immobile guard constructs.  Often built in the shape of a dog (but not always) these emit a piercing alarm when triggered.  I used some Reaper Bones statutes as they had suitably gaping mouths.

Phase Cats

I also needed some magical cats so I used these from Bad Squiddo:

Good point!  Bagpuss is certainly a magical cat!

For non-Brits or those under a certain age here is a picture of Bagpuss accompanied by some small constructs:
