Paramar Project
« on: September 16, 2022, 03:15:10 AM »
We had a good time with our last 30K campaign that we decided to delve into things a little deeper this time around.

We wanted to do a campaign where we could combine Titans, Space Marines and Spaceships.  There were several options but with what we had it seemed like Paramar would be the best choice.

One of our guys is building Alpha Legion so we should be good on that.  Then I have stuff for the Titans, both War Griffons and Tiger Eyes and another guy has more War Griffons, so we were covered there.

I have enough BFG stuff to do both sides of what was a rather small space battle.

So all that was left was the Iron Warriors, and they don't take long.

We are going to do four games.

The first is going to be BFG.

The second is going to be the Titanicus game.

The third is going to be the tank battle between the Alpha Legion and the Iron Warriors.

Then the final will be the assault on the moving maze defensive works at the heart of the Paramar base.

Each game will have an impact on the next.  So the side that wins the space ship battle will have an advantage in the titanicus game, the winner of that will have an advantage in the tank battle and if the Alpha Legion get warriors to the base in the tank battle they will be able to use whatever they get off the table in the final siege.

I'm working on the Iron Warrior tanks right now.

That is all that is done so far.

Ultimately there are going to be three Sicarans.  A squadron of two count as Elites and one as an HQ choice for this force.

This is one of the tanks from the squadron.  This will be the squadron command tank.

Then this is the other one from that group.  I still have the overall command tank to do.  I still have to buy that.

The troops choices are made up of Predator tanks.  I ultimately need three of those but I have two done so far.

The third will probably be similarly armed to one of those above.  I'm not sure that the Volkite weapon is worth it for a tank battle and these are Iron Warriors so they are most concerned with bringing down fortifications.

But we'll see.  The graviton and Volkite weapons do look pretty cool and once they pop those XXth Legion APCs the softer bits inside will need some killing too.

The Heavy Support choice was the first tank I did, which was the new Kratos.

I went with the battlecannon option so that they would have some choices about shooting at infantry as well as tanks with it.  As anti armour, any other Legion would be on the struggle bus with the battle cannon, but as the Iron Warriors get a +1 S when shooting at armour, the S8 battle cannon becomes a rather threatening S9 weapon.

I'm working on some Siege Terminators next.  I also have a Spartan APC to assemble and build, which I'll hopefully get done this weekend.  It will be the fourth of those that I've done.

What I have left for the tank force is the termies and their Spartan, 1 more Predator, 1 more Sicaran and a Land Raider Proteus with a squad of regular Iron Warriors in it.

So I need to finish 4 more vehicles and 20 infantry and this side of the third game is done.

Odd, a couple of the pictures won't show up.

Here is the first Sicaran

Here is the second Sicaran from the front.

A very nice looking force. I rather like the final armor effect.  Spray/airbrush with a wash for the tanks?

Pretty much.  I did some weathering on them for rust, blackening and dirt.  Not sure how well that comes out in the pictures.  There is also some chipping on the hazard stripes.

I mostly got the infantry done for the tank game.  There are only 20 infantry from IVth Legion involved in the battle.

Here are the Terminators.

These are the Siege Tyrant terminators.  They have a missile launcher system in addition to their twin linked bolters and powerfists or chainfists.  They are going to be in a land raider spartan which I'm planning on getting to this week.

They should be almost as effective as the tanks at being anti armour, if they can get up on enemy armour they will probably be even more effective.

There will also be Alpha Legion infantry so a secondary purpose will be to eliminate them as well if they come spilling out of their APCs for some reason.

The other squad will just be a regular tactical squad.  They will have limited utility against any of the vehicles on the table and will be in a Land Raider Proteus.  Their goal will probably be to try to get to the front of the Alpha Legion force and take out any infantry trying to hoof it off the table after their vehicle was destroyed.

Only six of them done so far. I have the other four assembled and primed, as well as the command Sicaran, and hope to get them airbrushed in the next 5 days or so.

I added a sixth tank to the force.  This time it is the HQ tank, another Sicaran.

This one is armed identically to the others.  I was hoping that we were going to see more Sicaran options released before November but I don't think that is likely at this point.

I also finished up the remaining four space marines for the tactical squad but they didn't look significantly different from the other ones, so just imagine ten of them instead of six in the picture above.

The Land Raider Proteus comes out next weekend I think, it is up for pre-order on Saturday.  I'll try to get either the Spartan or the remaining Predator done before then.  That will just leave the Proteus and the whichever I don't do first left for the army for this battle to be complete.

And I have a lot of stuff to paint for Fall In before then.

After these last two tanks are done, I'm going to start working on the Battlefleet Gothic stuff.

A bit of a divergence from the Iron Warriors, but this little guy is going to be used in the 2nd game of the campaign.

The Dire Wolf is my least favorite titan design so far. I got one for the sake of completeness and the Neutron Laser looks like it has some nifty rules.

I'll probably get another one to go with my Ember Wolves as they do suffer a bit from not having any really heavy hitting weapons sometimes.

This one is for my Tiger Eyes obviously and will see service on Paramar.

Thank you!

Here is the Tyche's Lament, the Iron Warrior ship.  I decided to go with a Desolator class Battleship.  The Aix-Ro is going to be a Repulsive class grand cruiser.

Overall the Iron Warriors are going to have 6 ships, this battleship and 5 escorts, I think.  The Alpha Legion will just have two, the grand cruiser and a regular cruiser.  This is more ships that the narrative states but it will make for a more interesting game.

The slab-sided ship seemed to hang in the void, its black and metal armour plates were an abomination to any sense of aesthetics but looked as though they were just the thing to stop planet smashing lance blasts or kilometer long torpedoes.

Vitripius Kril looked up to the Captain of the Aix Ro.  He had just reported the appearance of the IVth Legion flotilla.  The Captain looked at the ship, it barred the way to Paramar V and so it was a nuisance that must be removed.

"Destroy them," he said.

The Aix Ro responded instantly, beams of light and massive shells streaked across the void to slam into the Iron Warrior's flagship.

Explosions erupted along the front of the Tyche's Lament as the Alpha Legion barrage liquified meters of adamantium armour and sent them whipping away into the void, turning into spheres of near-impenetrable metal as the heat bled away from them.

The momentary surprise that accompanied the barrage from fellow Astartes was quickly replaced by rage. The scowl that spread across the scarred face of Kyr Vhalen would have caused his crew to tremble if it had been directed at them, as they knew they were to be the means of avenging the insult it emboldened them.  The Iron Warrior battleship was then moving after their new prey, the escorts that had initially backed away from the attack now moving in to support.

The two Alpha Legion ships moved to intercept the fast-moving escorts and blew one after another apart or left them drifting through the void as gas venting and burning hulks.

It did not deter Vhalen from his target and soon he was astern the Alpha Legion ships, as bomber craft kept the crew busy the Tyche's Lament pounded the Aix Ro with volley after volley.

Eventually the two Alpha Legion ships split up in the hopes that they would force the Iron Warriors to guard their flank, but Vhalen was implacable.

The Alpha Legion mission was not wholly lost.

While parts of the ship were drifting away and significant engine damage had been sustained the XXth legion poured resourced into keeping the ship together for long enough to deliver their precious cargo to the surface of Paramar V.

Two waves of Alpha Legion terminators were beamed down to the planet, right into the Paramar Nexus, to being to dismantle the Mechanicum leadership there and leave the rest of the system in a confused state while the Alpha Legion main attack began.

But those were the only two waves of attackers the XXth legion would get.  As it passed above the planet the Tyche's Lament continued to batter it with planet shattering attacks.

First the shield generators were destroyed and then beams cut through main support columns to the bridge, with fires burning throughout the ship now the bridge tower, being above the planet but affected by its gravity, was pulled down into the hull of the ship and the whole thing came apart.

As the Alpha Legion fought on the ground in the Paramar Nexus they were unaware of the impressive shooting stars that were all that was left of the Aix Ro, burning  even if the thin atmosphere of Paramar V.

It was a lot of fun.  Our next game is going to be a Titanicus game.  It will be the attack of the Tiger Eyes on the War Griffons.  We are going to do a double game with a reinforced maniple of Furreans in each of the games vs. a maniple of Gryphonicus.

It will probably be a Gryphonicus Warlord with 4 Reavers on one side vs. a Furreans Warlord, two reavers a warbring and a warmaster and then the other game is likely to be two Gryphonicus Warhounds and 3 Reavers vs. 4 Tiger Eyes Warhounds and a Dire Wolf.

After the third turn of each game, we'll see if enough titans have been destroyed to merge the two into a large game.

I got a unit finished for the second Paramar campaign game for this upcoming Saturday.

This is a unit of House Perdaxia Questoris knights.  They will be joining the Certastus knights I already have for House Perdaxia.

All three knight armors are equipped with the melta weapon option.

One of them also has the chest mounted meltagun.  So at close range these guys should be quite deadly and not something enemy titans will be able to ignore.

Although they do lack any long-range sting.

Next up is another unit of Questoris, this time for House Rajha.
