New 1/700 WW2 Naval Project
« on: September 28, 2022, 11:56:50 AM »

https://yarkshiregamer.blogspot.com/2022/09/new-1700-ww2-naval-project.html

Sometimes madness strikes in the strangest of ways and I certainly hadn't planned a foray into a scale and period that needs a huge warehouse to play but Yarkshire Gamer has never been known for the smaller things in gaming.

I've done a blog post (link above) to discuss the plans for the Project and show off the first completed ship I've done. I think this is one of the best pieces I've done in a long time, possibly ever.

Why not join me on this latest journey.

Regards Ken

The ship does look magnificent. :-*
It does remind me of all the Airfix kits I made as a child.

In between the World Wars there were quite a few Naval wargames that used Ballrooms.
In one a Hero Anti-Submarine Destroyer Captain of the First World War was the honoured
Guest. Naturally they gave him command of the 12 strong Destroyer flotilla.
His first action was to steam at full speed down the length of the Ballroom in line astern,
then execute a textbook turn into line abreast... running straight into 12 torpedoes! :o :o :o

You could always put the nice model in front of the player commanding it
and move a marker around the wargames table.

In that most excellent game. 'Seastrike' all measurement is done from a
tiny dot on the ship card, because (as it says in the rules) that is how
long the ship would really be.

Nicely done! I had quite a collection of 1/2400 and even 1/6000 ships back in the day but the draw of the bigger kits is hard to resist. I even bought a 1/700 HMAS Perth for Vietnam not long ago, even though it has no earthly gaming purpose. I suppose it is a reminder of childhood days and the old Airfix ships.

Take a look at the offerings from Trumpeter in this scale. They do a nice range of Tribals, County and Town class cruisers and quite a bit more of use for a Bismarck mini campaign.

Very nicely done!

I have a collection of 1/600th scale WW2 coastal warfare stuff which, naturally, I still need to finish off. It includes a single 1/700th scale model, of a monitor. Even at a scale down it is huge compared to the rest of the stuff I have. It is intended to act as a static target but, even with it's 15" guns assumed unable to engage the other vessels, it packs a large number of weapons.
There are 100 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary and those who can work from incomplete data.

A quick update on the Project with a second completed British Destroyer and a couple of German ships on the slipways.
