What an amazing project! Those modern plastic sets offer such great opportunities.
As someone earning his money with researching the archetypes, I can also add that those more or less standardized „units“ many wargame rules suggest to us are pretty far off from the prehistoric reality, so your „imagined tribes“ could very well have existed in the many many poorly researched placed of pre-literate Europe!

Yep, hence why it is more of a fantasy project than reality.  After listening to hundreds of hours of ancient warfare podcasts I basically come away with "No one knows anything, and everything we think is wrong".

Yeah, that’s basically a very good summary…
Especially do we only know about the wars fought with Mediterranean civilizations and nearly nothing about the myriads of conflicts that must have existed in the world north of the Alps!

Not much in the way of updates for this project lately - other than a few extra stands of basic Dacian style light infantry (and a hero).

Been mainly working on the rules and tweaking stuff lately.  Haven't had the chance to play it much lately.



I have a new bag of Dacians I'll be using to flesh out a bunch of units and more or less "finish" the not-Dacian army.  Another few units of infantry and I'll move onto some kind of opposing force.

Slowly bolstering the existing units, some more berserkers today.

Added a few more bases of normal light infantry today...so the horde is growing comfortably.  Still a bag and a half of Victrix to go before this army is "done".

Thanks.  Very happy with this army thus far...the opposing force will hopefully be a kind of Persian imitation (more cavalry, archers, elephants, etc.).

I have another 40-50 figures for this army to complete.  Working on a heavy chariot at the moment - for a general perhaps.

Late to the party and thus missing the army-wide shot, I finally built the third Victrix chariot -- decided to make a General's chariot or some such.

I like this army a lot - the kitbashing gives it a differ look and feel from ancient armies like the Gauls and different from any fantasy armies I have seen. On this chariot, the Dacian bits look great!
