I'm pretty sure the Oathmark/frostgrave line has some beastmen types you could use- painted a bit differently their demons make for pretty good warhammer-esque beastmen as well. All of that aside, looking forward to seeing whatever project you settle on, hope you have a good time with it :)

Yeah, there are lots of beastman options in cheap plastic kits: RGD satyrs, fauns and centaurs; Frostgrave gnolls and demons; Mantic ratkin (much bigger and beefier than Skaven, and often with rather wolf-like heads), frog people and salamanders; Wargames Atlantic lizardmen and werewolves; and heads from any of those kits on the bodies of just about any fantasy or historical human or humanoid.

I may have missed this, but game wise ... is there a reason some are on round bases, and some square?

The basic concept in FSF is that you build your own units via sandbox.  You have a list of unit types, and then each unit is selected in one of four experience levels (at increasing cost, obviously).

Each level allows a unit to select one trait (from their unit trait list), and increases their Command/Loyalty values.

One of the traits available to certain units is 'Skirmishers'.  This trait allows them to unlock deployment zones, flee from charges, etc.  The penalty is that they may never be in 'close order'.  So if I build a unit which is definitely going to be skirmishers all the time, I just put them on circular bases - which also lets me cheat by using fewer models. :D

A unit on square bases could also be a Skirmisher unit, but the visual distinction makes it a little easier.

The single figures on smaller 25-30mm bases are 'Heroes', a battle result which aids the unit (it serves as a marker).

Just a few pics from today's game..the Bazanti recruited a giant to help them narrowly defeat an Undead horde.

That looks awesome! Both suitably gritty looking armies.

While not terribly exciting...this was the addition from today. Speed painting some 'peasant mobs' (who serve as NPC units in scenarios).

Couple of shots from games today where the undead defeated the greenskins twice.

Since our local group is woefully short of "good guys"...I've begun the first of a handful of mercenary units.  Amusingly they'll actually be mercenaries...being farmed out to various armies as needed to help boost numbers.

Our group is currently:

Good Guys:
1x Dwarf Army (Small)
1x Dwarf Army (Large)
1x Bretonnian Army (Small)
1x Bretonnian Army (Small)
1x Empire Army (medium)

Baddies:
1x Undead Army (large)
1x Orc Army (large)
1x Undead Army (Small)
1x Chaos Army (Large)
1x 'Evil' Army (Small)

The first unit up is...a yet-to-be-named group of sturdy Ogre Mercenaries from the very enjoyable Landsknecht Ogre kit by Wargames Atlantic.

They look great! I've been on the fence about getting that box of ogres. This is definitely some evidence supporting the "buy" argument. Do I need them? No... but maybe.

It's a really solid kit.  Nine ogres for $30 is tough to beat.  My only qualm is that the rather silly "sci-fi" stuff is a waste of space on the sprue.  I know Wargames Atlantic likes "dual use" styled kits..but the helmets/berets/rifles do not make any sense with the bodies and I would have vastly preferred more fantasy/historical options/weapons/components in their place.

Also, none of the arm pairs for the halbers meet properly, so you have to do a bit of bodgery.

Got another game in yesterday vs. a new opponent.  Local guy is building up a generic "evil" army, but was borrowing some Battle Masters minis to fill out his force.

I have a few questions about the 'generic evil' army your buddy used - are those new Bretonian with different shields?  And any chance of seeing his giant/troll/ogre thing in a better picture?  I don't recognize it.
