Lion Rampant Shield Wall vs Wall of Spears vs Pike

Hello,

Over a few games of LR my friends and I were having a discussion.  The subject was which historical era would be "right" to use Shield wall, Wall of Spears, vs Pike rules. We were trying to match historical periods with matching rule.

The shield wall was fairly straight forward as it covers the early Medieval period.  Pike could be Later Swiss / early renaissance period.   Then the debate started around all fo spears.  What period would be the proper match for the wall of spears rule? 

The closest match I could think of was early Flemish troops. Maybe early crusader infantry formations. Would Scottish schiltrons of the 13th and 14th century better match Wall fo Spears or Pikes?

I just wanted to get other people thoughts on the proper historical era for wall of spears.
