FFL question
« on: October 22, 2022, 05:40:20 PM »
I’m interested in collecting French Foreign Legion, a few Berbers and a little North African terrain.

However, before doing so, does anyone have any size comparison pictures with Foundry / Unfeasibly Miniatures / Empress (1898 miniatures) please?

Thanks

I guess your options depends on if you want to do the earlier period of classic ”beau geste” legionaires (1900’s) with blue frock coats or the later 1920-1930s with khaki period. Beside the ones you mention you have also Old Glory, Artizan, Pulp and some other to choose from.

Wargame foundry makes some figures in their FPW range that could work for French North Africa.

Foundry Légionaires are suitable only for Mexico 1864 not for North Africa..average size
Unfeasibly they are nice, very slender , about average size but you could'nt find anymore ..it has closed i suppose..in case you've got any news please let us know
1898..i thinks its a good choice..average size
Redoubt bigger but , in my opinion, still compatible with others..

If you want to do 28mm, Redoubt is the way to go.  A large range of very nice figures.

I have to admit…when I cited Foundry, I meant Artizan.  Duh!

Can anyone help with the size comp pics or have knowledge of all three ?  Ta.

I have OG, Askari, Redoubt and Artizan  FFL figures and I can tell you that the Redoubt figures are closer to 30mm. They are larger than all the others. I still use them but I keep them in their own units. When they get into combat with each other then the difference is very noticeable.

Quick snapshot from L to R

Foundry-Unfeasibly-Redoubt-Artizan

I would say though that Redoubt are a bit uneven in size, some are bigger than the one above

Digits don't forget Old Glory!  They do the Classic Legionaires I have some somewhere and a few rather gorgeous Redoubt I will try to find them to do a comparison pic.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.
