AWI British
« on: October 26, 2022, 10:11:57 PM »
Just posted an update on my AWI collection on the blog. Really do like this period. Working on a couple of Hessian battalions at the moment to try and push things along. The "Live Free or Die" rules from Little Wars TV really have re-awakened my interest in the period.

What rules do you use?

Very nice. My 'go to' set of rules for Horse & Musket games
is Rebels & Patriots. Gives a nice game where I can concentrate
on tactics & how nice the game looks, rather than head in rules book
looking for an obscure point.

Yes, I tried those and liked them. Live Free or Die are very simple (only 4 pages) and give a great game too.

British Grenadier for "mainstream" actions, Sharp Practice 2 for skirmish games.  Having been wargaming the AWI since the Airfix sets came out in the 1970s, I've tried most of the rulesets that have been published in the intervening 40+ years and these two tick all the boxes for me.

I'm currently building a Sharp Practice force for SP2 based around the 71st Foot in the South, where they created a perfect combined arms force by forming a 50-strong light dragoon detachment.
No plan survives first contact with the dice.

Yes, we use Sharp Practice a lot and find they work really well for AWI actions. As with Live Free or Die, British Grenadier also have their origins in "Loose Files and American Scramble" of course - impressive that a set of rules written over 30 years ago can still deliver!

Lovely. I’m minded to get these for Sharp practice.

Very nice. I love this period too. What unit has the red flag?

It is a "generic" Loyalist flag painted for me by Mark Allen. I use it as any Loyalist unit I need depending on the scenario.
