Cowboys and Zombies!
« on: 27 October 2022, 09:04:50 AM »
I'm not sure whether to put this here, in Gothic Horror or VSF! My long awaited Kickstarter from CMON has just arrived and I put my initial thoughts and piccis of the contents on my blog https://grahamsgaming.blogspot.com/2022/10/cowboys-and-zombies-my-next-kickstarter.html

I was so close to backing this, several times, and always held off. Then I was tempted again when the first sets hit eBay but yet again I held firm, and not yet again I must resist… I really can not let myself get drawn into another genre.

But I look forward to living vicariously through your work on these mate!

I also am among the folks who were leaning heavily but for whatever reason just never pulled the trigger.

Out of curiosity, what size are the figs and are they compatible with any Old West lines?

Posted on Reddit's zombicide board, since nobody's posted an unboxing!

Looking forward to seeing the miniatures in various western miniatures games.

Maybe I'll get my arse off the ground and put together a diceless rules-light nolo-able cowboy game I've been thinking of... :P

Zombicide games are great fun but don't expect a miniatures games experience, it's definitely more board game that wargame.

I've already got a western town, so they will get a lot of use there.

I'm away for a few days but will post some piccis along some of my existing gunfighters when I am home again.

What I liked about the campaign is that we finally get some inexpensive western miniatures of good quality. No need to keep buying resin and metal!

The first printings of Shadows of Brimstone were awful -- I traded mine away -- and you didn't get many gunslingers, anyway.

I have some Old West rules PDFs for various miniature games on my hard drive.

Picked up the base pledge, plus the horseriders, which included a nun riding the donkey!

If you need terrain, DriveThruRPG has this free old west building:

A quick comparison photo. All my existing western minis are a few years old and I'm not sure where they have come from, but as far as I remember this is Foundry, Zombicide,Zombicide, Zombicide, Artizan and Dixon
The Zombicide fit in well with Artizan, a little taller than Dixon and Foundry, but so much as to look silly on the table.

I think the majority of the difference is in the base anyway which could be remedied if you were so inclined.

Personally I'd live with it.

In my opinion they should work best with Black Scorpion if you look at the proportions. New Knuckleduster should be fine, too.

Got my set. Pretty happy, although I certainly was shopping for western figures that were less expensive than the resin, metal, and sprues currently on the market. Dunno if I'd back another Z or generic fantasy CMON game nowadays (because of their rulesets and my surfeit of minis!).

Anyway, retail looks like $88 for the base set. Much cheaper than the base pledge plus shipping, although you don't get the SG's. Base set already has 88 figures!

I have primed a few, but no paint applied yet.  They are excellent figures.  Very characterful.  I was a tad worried when I backed it, since some previous iterations of the game have had minis that looked kind of cartoonish to me.  The figs do not have that problem.
