Ancients in all scales: Caesar 1/72 Trojans

I'm painting 2mm stuff for Strength & Honour, very slowly, and my painting style is best described as Impressionism meets Pointilism!

Lesson learned, I feel the single-colour and simpler models look better at a distance than any I've tried to do lots of colours.

Lovely painting.  Those 1/72 figures look great.  That's definitely a viable scale these days and much less of the poor relation it once was.

Those 1/72s look lovely, especially considering you say you don't spend very long on them!

Question (purely interested to hear yours and others' thoughts): Given that soft plastic 1/72s seem to be a faff to prepare and paint, what advantages or plus points do they have over, say, 15-18mm metal or hard plastics? Just interested to hear - I can see a few possible reasons but would be good to hear your thoughts.

Thanks! For me, it's the value. You can buy a box of 50-odd figures for the price of a couple of cups of coffee. You get the odd ugly or useless pose, but it's not a big problem.

I'm finding some guilt in having big expensive collections unpainted (Warhammer and old school fantasy in particular) and the occasional "what happens to my collection when I die" threads make we wonder... I'd much rather a big collection of 1/72, 6mm and 2mm models get binned or sold some next to nothing!

I actually prefer them to 15mm sometimes. Quality and scale varies incredibly from kit to kit, from maker to maker, but so does 15mm!

Also, I spend so little time on each model, it's almost a waste to paint, say, 28mm models to the same quality, but for 1/72 it seems appropriate.

Yes, I figured the cost element is a nice plus point. Personally I think the more realistic proportions are quite refreshing too, compared to exaggerated 15mm and heroic 28mm styles.

Out of interest, what paint range are you using on these guys? I’m a mix of Army Painter, Vallejo, and Citadel myself.
