Remarkable paint job on those figures. Especially the guy leading the horses. WOW.

Thank you very much, it was just the first miniature I painted, when I started the project. In my usual store, they were doing a demo of the game, the miniatures caught my attention and I bought that reference, to give myself the pleasure of painting it. The following weekend, I went back to the store and bought the rest of the blister packs of references they had for Riffs. In that miniature I did the paint test of the horses, as well as the general aspect that I wanted to give to the bases. And she was "responsible" for starting me on this project.

In fact, I knew the brand, because I had already acquired the Spanish legionnaires that had been released for the Rif War and which, in my case, I had planned to use for the Spanish Civil War. In fact, right now, I'm so enthusiastic about the project, that I'll probably end up painting them for the Rif War, (only the color of the belt changes, since the uniform, weapons, etc..., are the same). If there are no setbacks, at the first year, I'll start with them.

It's so hard to find literature on this conflict in English, let alone German. 99% seems to be in Spanish and unfortunately I can't understand that.

I wouldn't want to highjack this thread off topic, but there are also interesting sources in French about the German-French rivality in Morocco in the 1910s etc. if you are interested (um, no jingoism intended). ;)

You might be able to use the Moroccans from 1898 Miniaturas. I don't know if they are compatible with Baraka. Maybe someone else could answer that.  https://www.1898miniaturas.com/shop/es/56-miniaturas-de-arabes-bereberes-28mm-marruecos-1900

Oh yes, please, if you know any bibliography about it, I would appreciate it if you could mention it.

Of that rivalry, I know little more than the incident of the German ship off the north coast of present-day Morocco, which almost caused an armed conflict and ended with the Algeciras Conference, where they ceded part of the territory, as a protectorate to Spain.

Ha ha ha, of course I know them. Rafa, the owner of Atlántica, is one of the owners of the 1898 brand. Atlántica is my reference store, since I live in Madrid. In addition, Atlántica is the official distributor of the Baraka Games brand, which is the one that sells the Rifeños that I am painting.

The regulations for this game will also allow French and Berber legionnaires to play. The lists will be expanded, to be able to play those clashes and use the miniatures of the 1898 range.

Those miniatures are precious, I have had them in hand and sooner or later I will buy them, to give myself the pleasure of painting them. First the miniatures of the French legionnaires will fall, of course.

On a scale level, they are a little smaller than those of Baraka. That is why I would not mix miniatures within both brands in the same unit, although they do not look bad, putting units of each brand together on the table

Today I come to show the last unit that I have painted. The dismounted Riffian horsemen. At the game level, the horsemen are very fast units, but easier to hit, since they are more bulky, they hide worse in the terrain and they can be seen from a greater distance. But there is always the possibility of bringing them closer to combat and dismounting, to skirmish... . Although for that, you need minis on foot...

On this occasion, I didn't have to worry about looking for a color scheme, I limited myself to copying the ones I already had chosen for the mounted riders. Although it seems silly, that the riders, both mounted and on foot, are the same, is a detail that I love.

If you want to see more photos, you can do it at the link in the post. I hope you like it.

Due to the holidays, I have been resting for a few days from "miniature obligations" and I have not shown the latest progress. First I have added a new Riff infantry unit

https://pincelesydadoswargames.blogspot.com/2022/12/la-caida-de-nador-y-zeluan-entre-el-1-y.html

Next, I decided that it was time to add the heroes of my Riffian harka. At the European level, they would come to represent a lieutenant and a captain. In passing I added one of his escorts and a flag bearer.

https://pincelesydadoswargames.blogspot.com/2023/01/la-caida-de-monte-arruit-lideres.html

The end of my Riffian force is getting closer and I am finally going to be able to start the Spanish legionnaires, (I admit that I could not resist and I have already done a couple of color tests).

As for history, I have commented on the fall of the Monte Arruit fort, where 2,000 Spanish prisoners were massacred after surrendering, as well as the falls of Zeluan and Nador.

I hope you like it

That happened to me too, when I downloaded the photos from my phone they were all correct but when they went on the website they were sideways or upside down.

Brilliantly painted.  :o I may have to get some of these to go with my assorted Transcarpathian / Bukhara / Turkomen types.
We are where we are.

Thank you very much Triari, of course I am enjoying the project a lot and later on I am going to expand my Rif team even more. Right now I am finalizing the last miniatures of "phase A", for later I will include a second unit of Riffian cavalry.

I won't do it now, because I want to start the Spanish legionnaires, I've already done the first color tests and I'm very happy with them. The minis that I am using are also from Baraka Games Miniatures and are valid for both the Rif War and the Spanish Civil War

Yes Tom, I don't know why the photos are rotated, every time I upload one, when I post it, it appears upside down and I can't get it to appear correctly. If anyone knows how to do this, I'd appreciate it

After some time without presenting new advances, due to having been focused on other projects, I resume the Rif War, but this time, starting with the Spanish forces. Specifically, I will do it with an iconic unit of the Spanish army, which was founded precisely during that campaign: The Spanish Legion, formed in the likeness of the French Legion.

https://pincelesydadoswargames.blogspot.com/2023/03/a-mi-la-legion-tropas-espanolas-guerra.html?m=1

Over the next few weeks, I will focus on building a full force of 6 rifle units, with commanders, MMG support, mortars, etc...

Painting these miniatures has been a great challenge, especially due to the difficulty of the tones of the legionary shirts. It is a very specific tone, which I was able to solve thanks to a small Spanish brand.

https://www.bmrmodels.es/producto/set-uniforme-legion/

The miniatures, although I have not mentioned it, are from Baraka Games. A company that has started its journey focused on the Rif War, which continues to expand its catalogue. So I still have a lot of work ahead of me.

Little by little I will show you how my legionary force grows and tell you some anecdotes about The Legion.

I hope you enjoy it
