*UPDATE 06-11-23 Barbarian linebreakers finished!
« on: December 11, 2022, 09:52:19 PM »
Hi guys, for the past month I have been assembling my Oathmark barbarian army using mostly Frostgrave male snd female plastic models. I have 5 units of 20 man infantry and needed something extra. So I used the Victrix celt chariot set and Gripping Beast horses, converted the drivers and used some leftover plastic barbarians as extra crew.

Next up was a unit of 10 cavalry using the Gripping Beast noble goth cavalry as a base and complementing these with Frostgrave barbarian and knight bits as well as some greenstuff.

Now onto painting!

I completely agree, those look excellent! I love the kit bashed figures you’re putting together. The chariots are great.

Just curious why you decided to replace the chariot horses, did the ones from Victrix not fit in well?

Very creative, the cavalry and chariots are a great addition to a barbarian army.
Are you going to do a mammoth conversion?
Just curious why you decided to replace the chariot horses, did the ones from Victrix not fit in well?
Possibly so the horses look similar.

Thanks guys! really appreciate your comments  :D

@Pattus Magnus, the horses that come with the Victrix Celt chariots are very small, which is historically quite accurate, but I wanted something larger for my fantasy barbarians. And in addition, as Ultravanillasmurf said, to have them the same size as the cavalry :-)

General Lee, that makes sense regarding the horses. I have the Victrix kit, but haven’t done a side-by-side comparison with other manufacturers’ nags yet. The details you added, like the shields on the sides, go a long way toward moving it into a fantasy setting. I’m really looking forward to seeing them painted!

Sounds good! But what would I run him as? I see A Song of Ice and Fure also do some great looking mammoths but they are sold out

You could always use the Victrix elephants.

I got a wonderful mammoth off eBay, for my barbarian army.
Superb resin model.
Cannot remember the company, but just do a search?

You could probably run a mammoth as a giant. Both are big, attract arrows and are difficult to control. You could tack on a ranged attack for the mammoth or a giant for archers in a howdah shooting or the big guy throwing rocks, but why bother - their main impact in a battle-level game is shock and awe in close combat. I’m of the opinion that keeping it simple with a re-skin is the way to go when importing a troop type int Oathmark.
