WW1 Project with 28mm Wargame Atlantic figurines
« on: December 14, 2022, 03:44:11 PM »
HEy guys,
I'm back to the LAF with a new Project but in a new era for me : WW1  ;)
I took advantage of the release of the excellent WW1 infantry boxes (German & French) from Wargame Atlantic to launch into this new Skirmish Project to play
with the FistFull of Lead rule in its corebasic rule version.

Here are my first conversions for testing the WA possibilities :

German Raiders

The left arm is from the WA resistant box.

the shotgun and the bandolier are from Warlord and it 's only for fun that i put the gun in german hands.

As raiders, i put to some of them, the gas mask hanging around the neck.

More to come soon

 ;D

Any rule tweaks planned?

Great start keen to see more. One can't go wrong with Fistful of Lead - had not thought of using them for WWI but thanks to you that is likely to change...

Good stuff.

I too hadn’t thought of FFoL for WWI. But now I’m tempted!

Thank guys,

here is the way to make hanging gas mask :

and then a cutter work (you have a gas mask and a free helmet) :

Good start. I'll follow with interest.

I use the core but i translate it in French and add most of the special rules from the supplements.
Plane and indirect fire are added too from the Viva Mexica supplement.
Now i try to add a barrage fire rules as an evenement to give players some trouble during a game  o_o (i like to add some unexspected situation in a game  ;)).
Last time, we play a game in Africa 1914 where a Lion was involved in the fight between German Askaris and Belgian-Masai force lol lol see here for a battle report.

Leave the Jokers in the pack. When the first one is drawn the barrage starts.
It stops when the next is drawn. You can keep it stopping & starting by
leaving the jokers in the pack.
As to the actual barrage I find it fun to give each player a D6 worth of
cotton balls. These they may lob onto the table. Where each lands is the
shell burst.

We had a similar experience in one of our WW1 East Africa games. Animals were randomly
moved AFTER players had moved their figures. One poor player ended up mixed in with
the herd of elephants, not daring to shoot for fear of stampeding the Elephants. lol lol lol

For all the events, i will drive them by the Joker rules, of course.
* For a lone shell, it'll fall near the guy who play the Joker (for fun of course).
* Good idea for the cotoon balls  :o Especially  when you play with almost 6 players, with troops scattered on the table.
* a plane straffing the table.
etc...

Interesting conversions.  My one quibble is that I don't think the Germans ever used pump shotguns in the trenches.  In fact, when US troops arrived with such shotguns, the Germans made diplomatic protests.  From the History Network:

On July 21, 1918, German soldiers captured a U.S. soldier from the 307th Infantry Regiment, 77th Division, near Baccarat, France. He was carrying a weapon they had never seen: a Winchester Model 97 pump-action shotgun. On September 11, near Villers-en-Haye, the Germans captured a U.S. soldier from the 6th Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, who was also carrying a Winchester Model 97.

On September 15, 1918, the German government officially protested the use of the shotgun in a note verbale—an unsigned diplomatic note—transmitted to the Spanish Embassy in Berlin, then to the Swiss Embassy, and eventually to the American legation in Berne, Switzerland. The note asserted that the use of shotguns by U.S. forces violated Article 23(e) of the 1899 and 1907 Hague Conventions and warned that any American captured with a shotgun or shotgun ammunition would be executed.

As i writed, it's only for fun i have given him a shotgun.
Fun to protest against a simple rifle use when you use mass murder weapon like gas Moutarde/flamethrower . :o
