Plastic Carthaginian cavalry proxies?
« on: December 19, 2022, 01:24:36 PM »
Hello lads

Aventine miniatures makes very fine Carthaginian cavalry. But I was wondering if there are plastic sets that convert quite easily to Carthage.

I hope you guys let me know if you know something.

Yup, a very flexible kit.
I can recommend it.

You might also mix in some from the early Republican Roman cavalry set - with suitable head swaps from the Carthaginian infantry box. 1 of each sprue has a muscled corselet (as do all the Greeks) others are in mail.   Perhaps the normal Greek shield is better than the one with the Roman set.   Again spares can be had from the infantry box.

I've got Hannibal. He's awesome .   A  bit  more pricey but  supporting a Ukrainian company so feels like a good cause to me.

V&V makes great minis,. Yes comparing to plastic kits produced en masse they are more expensive, but very reasonably priced when compared to other companies offering resin or metal stand alone minis that many times are inferior sculpts. After all 7,5 euros per mounted mini with different horse sculpts each is not bad at all. I seriously wonder how they make any profit, since the silicone molds have to be redone every 30-35 copies because they burn out.

I was wondering what type(s) of cavalry you need?

Heavy, medium, light?

To eventually mix or match another make?  Aventine you mentioned but there’s also Crusader and A&A.

The latter appear to be all linothorax.
