Having just watched “Zulu”…….
« on: January 04, 2023, 08:21:29 AM »
Just finished watching “Zulu” (again) and I’d like to recreate the final scene where the three ranks of British soldiers are firing volleys at the approaching Zulus. This would involve figures both kneeling and standing while firing/re-loading.

As I’m new to this period I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of the best figures for this project? I’ve looked at various figures online but that only takes me so far.

Many thanks in advance for any advice offered!

Empress Miniatures have a brilliant range:

Perry miniatures too:

I agree that these are the best options currently on the market. Another option for nice figures are Black Tree Design - but a big WARNING to order from these idiots as they are likely not to deliver what you have ordered. I see a new company name on their website though - EOE Orbis Inc(?) so maybe miracles happen...

Black Tree/EOE Orbis Inc. are a very serious risk and have been pulling a fast one on their customers for nigh on two decades!

Might I suggest you read this thread:

In fact, one might consider this thread going back to the early 2000's as it was a huge problem way back in the days of The WAB Forum.

Many thanks for all the very helpful suggestions!

I wonder if anyone has an opinion on the Anglo-Zulu War: British Line Infantry Regiment set by Warlord Games?

Is it much of a game though, in terms of tactical decisions?

I ask generally actually about the Colonial period. I have men who would be kings. Never played but do wonder?

Don’t the static Europeans stand there and either blast enough spear wielding hordes in time…or not?

Thanks - it was made about 5 years ago for a customer as a Christmas present for her husband.  I handed it over in a service station on the M1!

Real shame about Black Hat apparently being unreliable – I'd been considering getting the British quartermasters and surgeons and converting them for my 1860s British force, but looks like it may be risky to attempt...

I'd go with the Perry set if you're looking at plastics as they're better sculpts:

It's Black Tree Designs (not Black Hat!) who have been consistently unreliable for years
