Best modern civilians
« on: January 05, 2023, 04:50:07 AM »
Hello, I'm trying to put together a game in which I need modern civilian types, preferably unarmed. Any good sources?

I was going to suggest anthalonica wargaming, but they seem to have nothing on their sight at the moment. I should drop them a line to see if they are shut down for the holiday.

It's worth having a search on the forum, as this question crops up semi-regularly

Note that some of those threads are several/many years old, so there's no guarantee the manufacturers are still out there :(

There are also a bunch I have, whose manufacturer I can never remember, but have been identified in some of the threads on the subject.

I'm looking for modern unarmed adventurer types myself just now, and I've resorted to building my own. I've just started bagging the parts, but it looks like it will be Anvil for legs and some torsos (they don't make male civilian torsos), Great Escape Games' Gunfighters arms and torsos and quite a bit of greenstuff...

Not true about Anvil. They have the Militia torsos, which are definitely civilian torsos.

Thanks for that. I was through their site at the weekend and all the male torsos I found were wearing body armour :( I searched for things like male and torso, which didn't turn up anything useful.

Even more oddly, having found them, it turns out I have that set and recently used two of them. I wonder what I did with the other four ???

Unarmed civilians are a tough one.  Ones with pistols are at least an easy snip away from being unarmed.

I had relatively good luck since I was looking for 1970s 'moderns'.

Had my best hunting with these ranges:

Killer B Games : Geezers Shut It

Black Tree : Doctor Who (I've gotten all of my orders from the US side)

Ainsty : Hooligans

Turnkey Miniatures : Modern People (old Mega Minis.  Had some trouble with their shopping cart, but got it sorted out via Facebook, can be slow replying)

What I did a couple of years ago is scrounge a second hand Heroclix seller's offerings for any unarmed scivvies. Turns out there are a lot of those available, and at the time, they were also dirt cheap.

I bought about 50 of them for approximately €0,50 a piece. Some were priced as low as €0,16, while others were about €1,00. I have no idea if those were liquidation prices and I just got lucky (first and only time I looked for any), or if they are still out there in the same price bracket.

Thy require some work, but they are prepaints, so for a mob of background figures, they could simply be given a wash and taken off their clicky bases and be ready for duty!

They have integrated crescent half moon integral bases with which they're glued to aforementioned clicky bases that could be glued onto Renedra plastic bases or coins/washers, be used as is, or removed entirely. Then you'd need to pin them onto whatever base you want, because they are not really heroically proportioned, so have relatively small feet (and thus a small glueing surface).

But I think they're pretty nice for the purpose I got them for; background figures, to be used as bystanders or maybe even as objectives (get them to safety before they get bitten, for example) :)

Anthalonica definitely have some (mine are in a box about 2 feet away as a I type this  lol)  but as said previously, they're shut down for the hols.

Spectre have a small handful, as do Footsore US (or whatever they're calling themselves now) - but the latter are more refugee types.

Empress Miniatures just released a few 28mm modern civilians:  https://www.empressminiatures.com/modern-civilians-108-c.asp   Check out the folks toward the bottom of the listings.

Spectre Miniatures also has quite a few, in the Civilians and Scenario Minis lines:

https://www.spectreminiatures.com/collections/mena-civilians
https://www.spectreminiatures.com/collections/objectives

Both are UK based, if that's an issue given the Royal Mail's international shipping issues going on right now.
