Hereford 1938 VBCW Spring Big Game 2023
« on: January 15, 2023, 10:56:18 AM »
The Hereford 1938 VBCW Spring Big Game 2023 ("Charlie and the Chocolate Factory") will take place at the Burley Gate Village Hall, Herefordshire, from 10am - 5pm on Saturday 25th February 2023. Can Sir Charles Tite-Wadde, Bt. and his "Collective Corporate Guard" save the newly built Cadbury's Factory, Marlbrook, from the strange variety of armies - Anglicans, Communists and Social Democrats (or Democratic Socialists, dependent upon whom you speak to)  - heading in its direction? What is the connection between Marlbrook, 1938 and The Alamo, 1836? Can Major Everard, C-in-C of Government forces "sally forth and save the day" from his existing defensive positions atop Dinmore Hill? And what's the latest campaign gossip from the City & County Dining and Refreshment Rooms? All this and more is exclusively revealed (well, discussed anyway) on the blog:

If any LAF member wants to come along to join in, just drop me a PM ! All welcome and all sorts of VBCW armies available...

I grew up near that chocolate factory. As a small child I was always disappointed that we never got a glimpse of Willy Wonka, and there were never any golden tickets handed out.  :)

Good to see the Burley Gate mafia are still at it.

Eustace Spode is particularly partial to Cadbury’s Dairy Milk. He’s dusting off his shorts as I type.

Plynkes - Afraid we had to leave Willy Wonka out of the scenario - somehow, post the film, he just seems too American and, of course, we insist on everything being Very British...Still, golden tickets, there's an idea....

JP1885 - Excellent news! Trust Eustace Spode is enjoying his new accommodation in Hay-on-Wye! https://hereford1938avbcwtng.blogspot.com/2023/01/campaign-gossip-back-to-city-and-county.html

I see the Lead Adventure Plynkes figure has joined your grubby little band of fascists. Not sure whether to take that as a compliment or an insult.

That figure always was destined to end up in a setting like this, I fear. I think he was born to it, he always did look like a Blackshort thug. And he's properly local for Herefordshire VBCW, so good choice.  :)

Plynkes, praise/blame JP1885 for that one - his figure choice! BTW, if it's any consolation, Eustace Spode is doing rather well in the campaign at the moment!

We're up to 9 players now, ideally looking for a 10th to play a dastardly, hard-line Communist......
(Communist Platoon available for any guinea pig happy volunteer without same)
Oh, and I've put details of this year's Modelling Challenge up on the blog:

A good day indeed, even though I managed to get into a bottleneck that prevented my advance thanks to a series of diabolical dice rolls.

Oh and hydrophobic sailors who refused to cross a river !

Currently sifting the photos now that the car has fuel, my stomach has fuel and the cats are appeased.

A great start for my Company of St Michael, representing the Anglican League. Hopefully next time I'll roll some better dice with my various artillery. I'm looking forward to the next game in the campaign.
