Bigger than Gettysburg: Chancellorsville (1863)

We took on the challenge of translating this 4-day, 15-mile, nearly 200,000-man battle to the tabletop. Really pleased with the results. Photos and report here:

Game looks good!

And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

6 mm or smaller figures?

Maybe there is just too much confusion in Chancellorsville to make it a good game?  Or not.

Vincent, thanks for posting the photo - I usually do that now on LAF but forgot this time.

FifteensAway: those are 15mm figures but they are on an 8'x4' table. Too much confusion? Maybe if you play a corner of it and just have a brigade or division floundering through the woods that wouldn't be very interesting. Play the whole thing at the army level as we did and it is jolly interesting indeed. Read the blog post to see just how good it was. Of the 100+ BBB scenarios I must have written by now, this probably ranks in the top 10.

Perhaps someday I'll shrink movement to 9" for infantry/artillery, 13.5 for cavalry and put the whole thing on my 6 X 4 table. Should be fairly close.

Good thinking, Vincent. I don't see why that shouldn't work. You'd only need 6'x3' to keep the table proportions.
