Absolutely stunning painting and choice of colours! The vibrant rich tones work really well with the super smooth light leather tones :-*

Thanks mate. After spending what seemed like an age cleaning them up I can feel what you're saying. Still, a nice paintjob can work wonders :)

For many more pictures and a detailed description of the arms and armour plus tactical use of the Nikephorian) Kataphractoi please feel free to pop over to my Just Add Water blog here
http://justaddwater-bedford.blogspot.com/2023/03/byzantinetagmatic-nikephorian.html:

Almost certainly the most attractive of all the units in an early 10th CE Thematic Byzantine army are, of course, the Kataphractoi. Fully enclosed in many layers of armour, invincible like a middle ages version of the battle tank. Well, not quite but that is certainly the impression they were meant to have on the enemy. One Arab soldier poet described the Byzantine horses as having no legs!

Oh wow. They really are spectacular. The detailed light and shade on the armour of both horses and riders is pure class. I also choose to believe that you free-hand painted all the shields.  ;)
Like you say, having this lot rumble towards you back in the day must have been pant-wettingly terrifying.

If you're willing to suspend belief then I will do so also!  lol Not too sure about Steve at LBMS Transfers though!

Although limited in numbers, they must have been an awesome sight as they moved as one toward you!

I look at the close ups and see how you've done the techniques, thinking though the brush strokes required.  Then I remember how small all this is in real life and how I have trouble staying in the lines at all.   lol

Lovely art D.
