Another good set is Gangs of Roam put out by Footsore Miniatures. They will be putting out 2nd edition later this year. But I still belive that you can still get 1st edition

+1 for the Song of… series rules, great mechanics these have always given us a good simulation/game!

Don't suppose someone has already done a staus? i know one of the wargaming magazines had done status for the punic wars.

There's a unit builder in here for the medieval mod of LOTR but it's easy enough to use for Romans.

Another couple option in addition to what others have listed, would be Knyghte, Pyke & Sworde by Nordic Weasel (and not just because I provided the cover photo) and Ares which includes a section on making your own profiles in addition to those already in the rules.

I am very pleased that somebody is still using that document from 2005

You did a grand job on helping realise more of LOTRSBG's potential, so it's an easy one to recommend. I'm still trying to track down the Sengoku Jidai version but it remains elusive thus far.

Song of...rules would work great. Also adds good tension to the game as one has to figure out
how many dice to roll and risk failure where you can't move at all.

Especially in a convention setting, it's nearly impossible to beat Fistful.  The activation system alone is perfect, and it's a fast and fun system to boot.

i second that !
For convention and good feeling in a games : FistFul of Lead. Can be run by many players without problems.

use in several cases with Romans vs German at out club for my Teutoberg scenario, right here :
