John Masters' "The Decievers" ? I seem to remember it was set in the mid 19th Century though, pre- mutiny anyway.  ???
Well I've lead an evil life, so they say, but I'll outrun the Devil on judgement day.

The Deceivers was made into a film with Pierce Brosnan...

But as already mentioned, it is set much earlier, 1820s in fact. And the fellow infiltrates the cult to bust it up, rather than to take revenge on the establishment, but if memory serves he gets swept away in all the bloodlust and starts to enjoy the lifestyle.

Don't know any other novels on this subject, sorry.

In the movie "Gunga Din" the Sergeants Three fight against the Thuggee.  I like the movie "the Decievers" though.
