BSC2023: Overlords Chinese Ancestral Hall/Small Temple

After a rather belated start I have now made some progress.

I always enjoy your builds Paul and this is certainly the most ‘planning’ I remember (did even the 007 set have such a well drawn plan?)

Thanks Steve.  Yes, for the most part I tend to "see buildings" in my head and then modify them as I need during construction.  The unusual roof on this build, plus the regularly tiled floor meant I had to do some 'proper' plans.


The top is 2mm foamed PVC (Palight/Foamex) and the base 3mm.
I have returned to my old fetish of engraving into the surface by hand. 


To raise the top surface I've used more 3mm foam PVC (at 90' to the top & bottom) engraved with a simple block pattern.  Doing this, with a small amount of reinforcement, means the weight is kept down but it remains strong.  Foam PVC glues well with superglue.  Be warned: it adheres almost instantly with a very strong bond!


Miniature included to give an idea of size.

Next will be the walls.

If what gets built on that base matches it you will have a superb build.  Curious to see how you achieve your roof, even if simplified it will be a challenge.  There is another thread here on LAF where someone is building just such a style roof (don't remember exactly where, heck, might even be a thread by you!).

Running way behind with this (distracted by an unforseen project..)

I've built the walls in several different sections, but they have yet to be glued together and to the base.  This was to aid adjustment and painting.

Construction is all plastic card with round rod and half rod (back wall) for the pillars.  5mm foam PVC for the end walls.





Got the (difficult) roof to do with time running out..
