Broken Stars & Burning Ships blog news
« on: April 03, 2025, 01:12:25 AM »
For those few of you who remember my old miniatures blog, I stumbled across a cache of old images that never got posted and plan to put the best of them up over the next few weeks (or months, knowing me) to showcase a few projects from  decade or so back when the world wasn't quite so unremittingly awful.  Will mostly be starships and other scifi, but there's some fantasy and random painting projects from my days selling on spec on ebay.

I've also been doing some minor maintenance, patching up outdated links as I find them and doing some repairs on a few dead images that cropped up my original Full Thrust: Spacewreck post, which also had a few new images added.  You can can see that post and the rest of the blog over here:

Sadly, I still haven't made any progress in learning to paint with a missing eye, so there won't be any significant resumption in output following this flurry of (possibly misplaced) nostalgia.

I love those wrecks! Very simple but effective and something that’s missing from my games (now on my ‘to do’ list). Nice to see a shout out for Full Thrust - a massively underrated and under appreciated game that deserves more publicity.

Yeah I used to love Full Thrust in all its versions, however nowadays as a soloist no more :(

And Chief Lacky Rich, I hope you manage to get painting again sir, my best wishes to you

That is a great way to use flawed models! Lots of other inspiring figures, too, in the other posts. I will spend some time later perusing your content.

Loves me some FT, of course, and never stopped being a GZG fanboy. Alas, I've alluded to my own reversals elsewhere. Still, 'I wept because I had no shoes...'

I also started with the ESU. NAC seemed to have plenty of players amongst my friends, and ESU seemed closest to mid-road between lighter FSE and NSL bricks.

Never had many 'alien' players...

I'm loving going through the posts, though I didn't find the list of articles until I got to a second one.

Please do try to restore more!

Jon's just gone from strength to strength over the years and continues to do so.  Probably done as much to popularize 15mm scifi as anyone in the industry.

I started so long ago the first Fleet Book wasn't even out, so there weren't any canonical human fleet designs to differentiate them.  Just happened to really dig a few of the original Space Commie sculpts.  :)  More Thrust was out, so we had the (overpowered) original rules for Kra'Vak and Sa'Vasku, but Phalons wouldn't show up in Fleet Book 2 for years yet.

If you click on the appropriate tag (eg Full Thrust or Satrships or Ground Zero Games) it should show you all the related posts - assuming I tagged them correctly.

I think I've got all the dead links and images fixed, but there will be some new posts using old images.  If nothing else I really need to put up a proper Phalon gallery - they're the only one of the seven big Fleet Book factions that doesn't have one right now, which is odd given teh number of them I once owned.  IIRC most of them are off in terrorizing Australian gaming tables these days.
