Dead Flock Box...
« on: April 04, 2023, 07:18:36 PM »
My faithful static grass flock box has bitten the dust (along with my photobucket account) and whoever made it doesn't appear on google any more - it was back in 2009 and it had a little lipped tray, rather than a flat plate - it's similar to this type of thing:

I could of course buy that one, but has anyone got any recommendations for a particular brand?

I have a tea strainer/fly swatter type, but I can't get the result the box gave me on figure bases.
I'm sure some people can make one at the drop of a hat - but not me, I'm looking for a finished product.
I'd rather not spend north of £100, so those probably brilliant ones for £200 that do everything are out.

Any opinions on what did, or didn't, work for you much appreciated.

Thanks

I find that keeping static grass in a plastic tub generates enough static that it stands up without the need for extra static charge.

Humm... I must be doing something wrong. I sprinkle it onto neat PVA (that could be it, of course) and however much I tap, blow, wave balloons around, it stays as a mat.

Using neat PVA means it hasn't come off so far, and I don't have to fix it with something else.

Well, this one for £45 looks similar to your old one - https://www.wwscenics.com/product/pro-grass-box-applicator-wws/

This is the one I use, which works nicely for me and is £56, although if you want the full set with extra bits it's £100 - https://www.wwscenics.com/product/pro-grass-micro-applicator-wws/

Thanks, useful that works up to 6mm and means I could it use on terrain as well. I did use my box for that, but it was awkward at the best of times.

I don’t sprinkle. I dunk the mini base in the tub of static grass, and I usually dilute the PVA a bit with water. That seems to work well enough

Yeah, I use the applicator for making my own tufts. For individual bases I wouldn't bother with it.
