6 mm German transport - horse drawn
« on: February 02, 2023, 02:58:41 PM »
Can anyone point me in the direction of transport options for a German infantry battalion in WW2, specifically the horse drawn variety.  If I want to include the various horse drawn wagons and carts (inc IF8 infantry cart) where could I source such things?  Baccus have a wagon that would sort of do for an infantry wagon.  I haven't been able to find anything resembling the infantry cart though.  They had solid wheels and shafts for a single draft horse.

Likewise would be nice to find a riding horse with holder for the Company commander vignettes.

Would also be good to find a limber and team for the infantry guns.  I understand the Regimental AT guns would be motorised but don't have a definite on that.

Game wise they wouldn't have too much effect in O Group but it would be nice to show just how much the Germans were reliant on horses (eg by 1944 a German infantry battalion had 1 lorry in its OOB and 150 draught horses).

The figures will probably be a little bit thinner than Baccus sculpts, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Heroics and Ros have suitable carts. They make a lot of WW2 support and rear echelon figures that other manufacturers can’t be bothered with. Definitely a more minimalist sculpting style than Baccus, though.

Hi, both GHQ ( sold by Magister Militum in UK) and Heroics and Ros produce German supply wagons and cavalry figures, but I don't know of anyone who produces gun teams.  Baccus do produce a German WW1 horse-drawn gun limber.  Remember GHQ are actually 1/285th not 1/300.

Jon, they are indeed. I nearly commented on that in my post but didn't want to start an argument with GHQ fans.  They are however beautiful models.  I'm not too sure about the sculpt quality of the H&R. Some of the models date back to the 1980s and they are very basic. The more recent ones ( both vehicles and figures) are much better if not up to GHQ standard.

Well other than the wheels here you go.

Looks like the carts are empty so you could even place passengers. Maybe fill the wheels with putty to make them solid.
