Mutant Chronicles updates/redesigns
« on: February 05, 2023, 09:07:48 PM »
On the off chance that anyone is interested, here is something that I have been working on:

Capitol Light Infantry Corporal

Capitol Gear

Mutant Chronicles Faction Symbols

Although I am looking forward to seeing Res Nova's new sculpts and what they are offering in the upcoming Kickstarter, I also know that it will not really be 100% what I want, so I decided to go ahead with my own updates to the Mutant Chronicles designs.

The idea is to keep a good bit of the 90's design and update parts of it.  One of the biggest things is the weapons.  The artists that originally worked on these designs had very little of a clue how firearms work...

Having worked through this stuff, I'm not sure I want to jump right in to doing wargame levels of designs right off the bat.  I was thinking of updating the Siege of the Citadel board game instead.  That will let me do a couple designs from each faction to establish the baselines.  Also, some scenery maybe.

If anyone is interested, I'll post updates when I have them.

Thanks for dropping by.

Looking good. I played this in the 90s.

Superb stuff.

I'm interested to see where you go with this - very interested to print some if you make the STLs available.

Thanks.  I've played exactly one game of this, also in the 90s. lol  I really loved the art and fiction though, so I've kept my stuff all these years.

Thank you very much.  I will probably not make the STLs available.  I don't want to step on the current license holder's toes.

Very nice work on him and nice pose.
Thank you.  Posing is one of the hardest things to do, so I'm happy to hear that this one is working.

that's a crying shame, but totally understandable.  Would you consider making the weapons available at least?

Lovely work on these - it's clear what they are, and they are very much in style and keeping with the original models (which I approve of!).

I understand not sharing the STL files, but I agree that it's a shame these will therefore not ever really be "available" then. Still, at least we get to see them and dream!  ;)

Glad to hear it.  I was actually thinking of creating a set of linked scenarios for Siege of the Citadel using Galactic Heroes, rather than just trying to recreate the board game.

Probably not, given it will be obvious what I created them for.  I'll think about it though.

Thanks so much!

I was able to do a test print of the Light Infantry Corporal.  Had a couple support failures but it mostly printed.  I also found some areas that I need to do further work on.  Most of those changes are made and I hope to print again tonight or tomorrow.  Pictures once I get a good print.

I've also started work on Sean Gallagher:

Still very early.  Pose will be similar to the Paul Bonner artwork.

Got an ok print of the Capitol LI Corporal (but still sub-par pictures, sorry) Still some more adjustments to be made, but I'm very close to a finish now.:

Next to a mostly built Cadian.  I'm leaving his arms off until I paint him.

Next to a Wargames Atlantic Corporate Security figure.

Next to a Wargames Atlantic OOh Rah figure.

Next to a Reptillian Overlords Master Regiment figure.  I lost the head for that figure...

I also started working up stats for the Siege of the Citadel Heroes using the Galactic Heroes rules.  I am mostly sticking to the Crew build guidelines, with a few exceptions, to account for the fact that I'm trying to recreate a boardgames' limited scope. The idea that I have is that you pick 4 from this list to run through each scenario.

DoomTroopers
Crew Traits
*Heroes All  *Advanced Comms  *Armored

Max Steiner
*Ranger  *Unstoppable
  • Plasma Handcannon (Counts as Blaster Pistol)
  • Sword
  • Knife
  • Heavy Armor
Valerie Duval
*Two Fisted  *Infiltrator
  • Pair of Electro-Charged Nightsticks (Counts as Swords)
  • Sniper Rifle
  • Knife
  • Light Armor
Mitch Hunter
*Lucky  *Strategist
  • Shotgun
  • Capitol Sword of Honor (Counts as Power Sword)
  • Knife
  • Light Armor
Big Bob Watts
*Strong  *Indomitable
  • Nimrod Autocannon (Counts as Heavy Blaster)
  • Sword
  • Knife
  • Light Armor

Edward S. Murdoch

*Ranger  *Fearless
  • Plasma Carbine (Counts as Blaster Rifle)
  • Knife
  • Heavy Armor
Sean Gallagher
*Deadly Strike  *Master of Melee
  • Gallagher Claymore (Counts as 2H Power Sword)
  • Pistol
  • Knife
  • Gallagher Amulet of Deflection (Counts as Belt Shield)
  • Light Armor
Coral Beach
*Killer  *Soulless
  • Plasma Carbine (ca. Blaster Rifle)
  • Knife
  • Heavy Armor
Attilla III
*Impervious  *Soulless  *Slow  *Mule
  • Deathlockdrum (Counts as both Machine Gun and Grenades)
  • Knife
  • Extra Heavy Armor
Yojimbo
*Defensive Fighter  *Encouraging
  • Ceremonial Blade (ca. Power Sword)
  • Knife
  • Heavy Armor
Tatsu
*Street Fighter  *Smart
  • Gehenna Puker (Counts as Flamer)
  • Ceremonial Blade (ca. Power Sword)
  • Knife
  • Light Armor

I'll post Dark Legion stats once I've come up with them.  Then I'll share the scenarios.  Once everything is all done, I'll work up a finished, more polished, pdf to share with everything in it.  I'd love to hear any thoughts from folks along the way.

I donít know the inspiration but I like the sculpt; the face and clothing folds are especially nice.

It looks very good! I'm assuming that's a 25mm base? Also, compared to the plastic Cadian, I might be tempted to make print the model a smidge smaller personally, but that's more an observation than any sort of criticism.

Thanks!

My biggest inspiration for this project is Paul Bonner's amazing artwork.  He did some of his best work for the Mutant Chronicles property, in my opinion.

Thank you.

The bases on all of these figures are the ones that came with the Cadian squad.  I believe they are 25mm.

I was thinking the same about the figure size.  I need to put together some of my other GW infantry figures and get a comparison with them first.  It seems to me that the Cadians are a bit smaller than other figures that I have from GW (Blackstone Cultists, and Death Korps.)  I want to get some Kasrkin as well, but I'm pretty sure those are larger than these others.  Not that any of this is necessary really, lol.  This is effectively a standalone project.
