7TV Feature Pack Battle Reports
« on: February 07, 2023, 12:48:41 PM »
We're are starting to run through the 7TV Feature Pack campaigns, starting with Rick Rhodes and the Pirates of Luna City.

I figure this board is probably the most sensible as the packs cover everything from fantasy to pulp.

Anyway, here's chapter 1 of Rick Rhodes and the Pirates of Luna City.

Heart of the Lion

Newly appointed Protector of the Solar System, Crown Prince Leon awaits his arranged marriage to the Uranian princess Xuri in his home of Luna City.

Suddenly, the infamous Scarlet Pirates make a daring raid on the leafy Palace of the Lion Men. Can the bold buccaneer Captain Vana steal
Prince Leon from under the noses of the lion men? And what impact will this have on the League of Planets’ fragile alliance with the Uranian Empire?

Some rough images of the two casts.

L-R: Commander Zann, Royal Artillery, 3 Shieldmasters and 5 Guards

L-R: Captain Vana, Bosun, 3 Corsairs and 3 Scarlet Pirates.

Te board is set with the pirates outside the Crown Prince's tree top hut, needing to escape the northern or eastern board edge. The Lionmen have blocked both of their exit routes.

The Lionmen get the initiative, moving up and firing a valley of ray pistols, taking out one Corsair while the others narrowly evade the shots.

While the Royal Artillery blasts at the pirates, putting the Weakened status on one of them.

The pirates begin their counter attack, taking out the Artillery while Vana makes a break for it with the Prince.

Meanwhile the remaining Corsair block the Lionmen from grabbing the objective tokens.

With a roar, the other guards charge at the Corsairs, taking on out while the other swash buckles with the group of guards.

With the Prince in tow, Vana is able to shoot down the Shieldmaster that was attempting to block her way, but the Prince is slowing her down, stopping her from making distance to the edge.

With some awful defending, and limited plot points to use of defence, Commander Zann can't withstand an attack from so many pirates and is eventually taken out of the game... Three 1's on the roll of defence can't help the might Lionman.

The numbers game was taking place on the other side of the table. After a valiant effort, the last Corsair is removed by the Guards.

A clash of steels and ray pistols emerge as the Lionmen and Pirates come blow to blow with a Shieldmaster being removed from play.

The melee allows Vana to slip through the Lionmen's line and escape the board with the Crown Prince.

More rounds go by as the the Lionmen start to turn the tide, hoping to wipe out the remaining Pirates to clinch the victory.

But with the loss of even more Guards, all hope is lost and the Lionmen's spirit breaks.

A 4 - 1 VP win for the Pirates means the villainous cast gains the initiative in the next chapter.

Tune in next time!

Excellent stuff!

Thanks Karl

This weekend we got Chapter 2 in - The Ring of Power

Rhodes to the rescue! The League of Planets dispatch the Rick Rhodes’ Radium Rangers to Saturn’s Rings to pursue Captain Vana, suspecting her father - the infamous Pirate King Iago - of kidnapping Crown Prince Leon for ransom.

Hidden amongst the colossal icebergs of Saturn’s rings is the Ice Fortress of the Pirate King - Iago. Rhodes rockets to the pirates lair to negotiate Leon’s return only to discover Iago is completely unaware of his daughter’s crimes! The proud Saturnian Pirate is none too happy to be so falsely accused…

The Heroic cast L-R: Rick Rhodes, Commander Zann, Radium Ranger Captain, 4 Radium Rangers and 4 Royal Guard with Swords and Shields.

The Villainous cast L-R: King Iago, Glacian Brute, Glacian Brawler, 2 Glacian Guards, Frost Bear, 2 Ice Tigers and 6 Glacian Raiders.

The board was set with the slippery, tilting Ring of power in the centre, with the Horn of Saturn in the middle of the arena of death!

With the villains picking up the win last game, the King Iago's raiders advance, using one of his gadgets early on the get some of his models onto the icy arena.

As well as breaking the chains of one of the gladiatorial Thralls, recruiting them to their side.

But it's not long before the arena starts to tilt and the occupants begin to slip out of position.

In their turn, the Radium Rangers burst into action, taking out a Raider and making it to the Horn.

And with some words of encouragement by Rick Rhodes himself, free a Thrall for their cause.

The arena continues to tilt, leaving the Ice Tiger to cling onto the edge by it's claws! Hang in there kitty!

Showing himself to be a king who leads from the front, Iago and his men clamber onto the Ring of Power to protect the Horn for the turn. As well as using another gadget to ensure he cannot be targeted in the next turn.

All while his men and beasts flank the Radium Rangers.

Not ones to be left out of a good fight, the lionmen, and their newly freed Thrall charge into battle!

The fight on the arena allows one of the Radium Rangers to swoop in. Passing her Spirit test she proves herself worthy of Saturn and grabs the horn. Now she just has to keep hold of it until the end of the game!

At the start of the villains next turn sees and unfortunate Countdown card effect knock both the Ice Tiger and a Radium Ranger off into the icy waters below.

The Ice Tiger claws itself out of the pool before it freezes and advances onto the Ranger with the Horn.

While a Glacian Guard uses the scenario special rules, allowing you to push an enemy model off the arena into the frozen waters below. Taking a lionmen out with the fallen Radium Ranger.

With a vast horde of gadgets, Iago uses his final one to Dominate the Ranger with the Horn compelling her into an ambush, which luckily for the heroes, fails.

On the heroes turn, the first course of action is to get the Horn holding Ranger out of trouble, removing her statuses. She is able to make her Jet Rocket attack, knocking all nearby enemies over. She then sky rockets over the arena to a safer position while above her a Glacian Guard is knocked into the water below.

Back on the arena, the Ice Tiger is removed from the game after so valiantly battling against the odds.

With some quick thinking, Rick Rhodes uses a smoke grenade gadget, stopping Iago and the others from being activated next turn.

The fight carries on and Rick Rhodes suffers a status, netting a VP for the villains. Every little helps!

The Radium Ranger with the horn now rockets out of sight and to safety, keeping hold the Horn as best she can.

In the final stages of the game, a Countdown card effect knocks every extra down to add to the chaos.

King Iago, obviously having another of everything started to take matters into his own hands, and with the back of of his few remaining warriors, and never failing his axed test, managed to take out Commander Zann and enough extra for me to take, and begin to fail axe tests. More VP to the villains.

I, as the Radium Rangers was starting to feel somewhat smug at this point. Despite having lost a few models, I had the Horn secured and knocked off some models for extra VP. But upon working out the maths, I realised I was actually behind, king Iagos men had gotten VP from axing some models, getting a status on Rick Rhodes and knocking my models off the arena and looked like he had planned to get the extra VP from being the sole side on the arena at the end.

So with the Horn safe and on the last turn of the game...

I threw all my eggs in one basket!...

I pumped all the resources I had into chinning King Iago has hard as possible with Rick Rhodes, electing to push him into the arena, removing his last Health point in the end phase and snagging 2 VP for removing the Glacian Pirate King.

A 5-3 VP win for the heroes, that could have easily ended in a draw. Phew!

The heroes gain the initiative in the next turn and with the acquisition of the Horn, the heroes gain the use of the gadget in the final chapter of the campaign!

We're back with Chapter 3 - Vengeance On Venus

Attacked by an unknown rocket ship, the Radium Rangers vessel is damaged and crash lands on Venus. The Rangers use their parachute capes to escape, but they are scattered across the Venusian wastelands.

This chapter opens with Barbara being guided to safety across the wastes by a tribe of Venusian natives. However, the barren wastes of Venus are not just home to savage Beastmen and volcanic Magma Apes; far bigger and hungrier creatures lie in wait…

The heroic cast L-R: Barbara Hunter, Starsha, Tribal CHief, three Native Guards, three Radium Rangers and Four Nomadic Warriors.

The villainous cast L-R: Lava Cyclops, two Beastmen Snarlers, four Magma Apes, three Beastmen Howlers and three Beastmen Mutts.

The board is set as the heroes need to make their way through the volcanic terrain, avoiding the active geysers (numbered tokens) and grab as many objectives as possible before escaping.

Barbara leads by example, charging across the lava, unfortunately failing her Body test and catching fire. The first turn of the game means plenty of plot points to quickly remove it.

Meanwhile Starsha leads the Nomads to an objective token.

The Natives then hop across the lava, two of which catch fire, with one perishing in the process...Not a great start for the heroes!

With Cliffhanger card that reduced their speed, all the villains could do was plod forward.

Barbara led the Radium Rangers forward grabbing an objective. First VP in the bag!

Starsha grabs the second objective for another VP while the Nomads try to take out the Beastmen. With Defence 9, it's no easy feat and after a barrage of Ray Rifles, only one Mutt falls.

The villains decide to put pressure on the heroes, taking two Cliffhanger cards whenever possible and advancing on them quickly.

Starsha lads over the lava and summons an Animal Companion to quickly grab another objective. With three gained that also means the heroes will gain the Venusian Rose gadget in the final chapter!

The heroes quickly Steal the Scene. Allowing them to take another turn, the Radium Rangers and Tribal Chief escape the board to safety.

While Starsha sneaks past a Snarler.

But as Barbara tries to escape, she is ambushed by twi Magma Apes lying in wait. They manage to get a status on her, Stunned, before taking her out, netting the villains 3 VP, one from the status and another from removing her. A successful ambush!

With Barbara removed, only one Native Guard is left on that side of the board.

With one objective unclaimed and tough for the heroes to get, that'll net the villains another VP, so it's desperate times for the heroes. The Nomads have to make a break for it to escape the board. Sadly only one is able to while the others are taken out trying to break combat.

With only the Native Guard and one Nomad half way down the board, it doesn't look good for the heroes. Neither have the speed to escape before getting mobbed...

That is until a Cliffhanger card pops up granting them a free movement action. The nomad quickly hops the lava and escapes the board allowing the heroes to have half their models escape! +1 VP hard earned!

The final Native Guard is left surrounded by monsters. He quickly runs to away, holding out until the end of the game.

A 4-4 VP game, with the heroes clinching the draw in the final turns. A real nail biter!

Grabbing 3 tokens allows the heroes to utilise the Venusian Rose gadget in the final chapter but the draw means it's a standard roll for initiative in chapter four!

It's been a while since we picked this campaign up, but here's Rick Rhodes and the Pirates of Luna City chapter 4: The Scarlet Wedding

The truth revealed! This was no kidnapping - Vana and Leon eloped and are to be married in secret in an ancient Venusian temple. Unfortunately, the ceremony is interrupted by the mechanical menace of the UranianEmpire, which is intent on ensuring that Leon marries Uranian Princess Xuri to secure the Empire’s influence over the Solar System!

The Uranian Emperor is determined to stop the wedding ceremony of Vana and Leon at any cost.

L-R Rick Rhodes, Captain Vana, Spanners, Scarlet Bosun, 3 Scarlet Pirates and 3 Radium Rangers.

L-R Professor Krazvo, Uranian Courtier, 5 Mechanical Men, 2 Uranian Centurions and 4 Uranian Guardsmen

This was our board set up with the heroes set up on the pyramid with the villains having a scattered landing, deploying in a random board corner.

Our heroes started off. With the help of a countdown card allowing everyone to move 3", the heroes moved into positions to protect Vana and the statues.

It was then the villains. Their countdown card allowed them to swap two heroic extras. Popping the Radium Ranger down next to the Bosun in exchange for her Pirate meant that the Bosun's Unit Leader ability was useless for now. With that in place, the Mechanical Men moved in to tie them down while Krazvo and a Guardsman started to whittle down the statue.

The Centurions and other Guardsman started to do the same but due to a localised sandstorm, their volley only took one health from the statue.

Back with the heroes and Rick Rhodes decides to lead by example, blasting away one Centurion, while a Radium Ranger took out another... The eagle eyed will notice the Guardsman has a wound, we totally forget they only had one and he should have been out, but these things happen!

Fearing this Guardsman might remove the statue in his next turn, the heroes use a gadget, stopping him from being activated in the next turn.

The Mechanical Men continue to grapple with the heroes while Krazvo and the Guardsman take out the first statue and gain the first VP of the game!

While at the far side of the board, the Courtier leads a Guardsman and Mechanical Man to take out both a Radium Ranger and Scarlet Pirate.

The heroes answer back in kind! A Radium Ranger gets a wound on Krazvo while the Bosun risks a free strike to break free and chop him down, taking him out of the game and netting the heroes 2 VP.

While not far the two Scarlet Pirates concentrate fire on the Guardsman. With no enemies about, the statue is as good as safe!

The villains decide to get to the task at hand and begin to chip away at the statues on the other side.

But our sneaky monkey pal has other ideas! Using his Wire Snip ability, he is able to command a Mechanical Man to charge one of his own, but to little effect.

Having already suffered a wound earlier, the Courtier decides she's had enough, ducking into cover and letting those under her command do the dirty work!

The end is near and in a stranger twist of fate, Vana is swapped with one of her Scarlet Pirates. She quickly uses a gadget that stops her from being attacked.

Having finally destroyed another statue, the villains advance, only to be met with fire rom the recently transported Pirate.

With another statue down, it's looking like a 3-4 VP win for the heroes, but the Courtier spies Vana out in the open and in charging distance. With as many plot points as she can spare, she charges in, hitting her with a brawl attack and causing the Weakened status, tying the game at 4-4.

BUT WAIT! I shout as I point out that Vana currently has a gadget in effect that means she can't be targeted for an attack! With Krazvo removed and Vana on the board that's 4 VP for the heroes vs the 3 for each statue removed for the villains.

Fate is a cruel mistress as a draw is pulled out from under the villains making it a 4-3, narrow victory for the heroes!

The final chapter is right around the corner, and hopefully won't take as long to get to the table!

Thanks folks. The kind words are lovely! I'm glad you're all enjoying it. After 8 months, the finale is here!

Chapter 5 - When Titans Clash!

Outraged at losing their chance for greater power, the Uranian Empire declares war on the Lion Men! A battle rages on the forest floor between good and evil!

The heroic cast L-R. Rick Rhodes (with the Horn of Saturn), Captain Vana, Barbara Hunter (with the Venusian Rose), 3 Radium Ranger, 3 Scarlet Pirates, 3 Shieldmasters and 2 Sabre Claw Cavalry.

the villainous cast L-R.  General Stahl, Professor Krazvo, Uraniun Colossus, 4 Mechanical Men, 1 Uranian Centurian, 4 Imperial Guard, 4 Uranian Soldiers and the Uranian Death Ray in the back.

The board's set up with the tree top walk ways high above the battle field. Winning the previous game, the heroes go first.

Rick Rhodes goes first, straight away using his Horn of Saturn to summon a Greater Animal Companion, in the form of a forest Bear. he then advances, leading from the front.

A Scarlet Pirates grabs the first objective token, but triggers a trap, knocking both her and Rick down.

A Sabre Claw then tries its luck with an objective token but disturbs an angry Marsh Beast, getting hit and suffering a Weakened status for its troubles. The Marsh Beast remains in play, blocking this flanking route off for the heroes.

The Radium Rangers then scatter into the tree top walk ways to add pressure to the villains plans!

While Barbara leads a group of warriors on the other side of the board.

Using a gadget, Krazo starts his robots storming forwards, remaining close by to make them more mobile.

Oh of the Imperial Guard fires up the Death Ray and starts firing down on the bear.

The heroes score a lucky Countdown card, knocking over the Colossus before it can start to cause any real damage.

The villains return the favour by getting a Countdown card that allows them to make a free shoot attack. Using the Death Ray, they add additional wounds to the bear and remove it in the turn. Netting them a VP for removing a model with the Death Ray.

The Colossus then gets to it's mechanical feet. Not too happy with being knocked down begins it's assault, vaporising a Radium Ranger and Shieldmaster.

In the heroes turn, they grab another objective token, this one calls for reinforcements, with two Otherworldly Guards (in the form of Lionmen) appearing. Sorely needed help after that attack!

Barbara and the Shieldmaster then begin to whittle away at the gigantic robot.

Barbara also takes this opportunity to use her Venusian Rose, only setting one robot on fire. Not as effective as she would have hoped.

One Imperial Guard grabs a token, here he finds a faulty rocket engine, scorching himself but severally wounding Vana. The pirate queen quickly uses her First Aid gadget to nullify the damage and saves her skin.

Meanwhile, Stahl and his soldiers start to reduce the heroes numbers.

The end draws near and in a surprise twist, a rather late to the fight Glacian Raider arrives, giving the heroes more reinforcements.

Having saved his last gadget, Rick Rhodes uses it on General Stahl, immediately causing him to be Dominated. With this status on the General, the heroes force him to run as far away from his allys and then charge into them to tie them up, reducing the likelihood that the status can be removed.

Things go from bad to worse for the villains as the Death Ray backfires and causes Stunned on the Centurion.

With both sides having gained 3 tokens, the villains removing the bear with the Death Ray and Stahl looking like he'll end the game with a status, it's 4VP a piece and the final turn. Right now the best option for the heroes is to remove the Colossus. It's already 2 wounds down... Or is it?!

The final Countdown of the game forces the hero to pick a robot to regain 1 Health, and being the only one on board with -1 Health, the Colossus regains one of it's lost wounds.

Not wanting to risk gaining a status herself, Barbara doesn't break combat and is tied up. The Shieldmaster has been captured, so the two Lionmen Guards unleash a folly of attacks, whittling it down but the Colossus remaining in the game with 1 Health.

As a last ditch attempt, I sink all of my remaining plot points into activating the nearby Captain Vana and boosting her attack as much as I can. Her shot fires true and blows up the hulking Uranian Colossus. Netting 1VP for removing a model with 3 or more health!

At 5-4 VP to the heroes, the villainous Uranian Empire scurry back to explain their failure to the merciless Emperor!

A hard earned and narrowly won game, clinching it in the final turn!

The combined efforts of the Radium Rangers, Scarlet Pirates and Royal Lionmen have saved the day. The galaxy is safe once more!
