it 'll be nice if Cuprum would offer us his precious opinion...maybe ..but i could easily be wrong, that with his white hat and the curved scabbard and, apparently, unprotected hilt, could be associated to the uniform of  Cossack cavalryman. Strange that his trousers are light grey-blue instead of green.

Ran the image through a site that translates text on images (yes, these exist). Somewhat comical results but says it is:

"Private life guards of the Cavalry-Grenadier Regiment in marching uniform with a cap in a white case"

Translate at your own risk.  lol

I had seen a description somewhere that the dragoons wore grey-blue trousers and that's why I thought he may be a Dragoon. Could he be part of the Dragoon Guards regiment?

I can understand some russian, or at least read the writing when I don't understand all words, so with the help of the virtual russian keyboard on my computer I got the translation :
“private life guards of the equestrian grenadier regiment in uniform with a cap in a white case“
...the last word “case“, чехле in the text but that's grammar, the word is чехол which I think means a cover, covering.

You did a great job with the translation without me)))
Next time, if you need my help - write to me in a personal. I don't always browse the forum sections in those periods that I'm not doing at the moment.

All Russian regular cavalry during this period had gray-blue trousers with marching uniforms. With a marching uniform in a hot climate, Russian officers were allowed to have a white cap, or a cap covered with a white linen cover. The practice of wearing white covers on caps unofficially extends to ordinary soldiers.

Thanks Cuprum..those kind of infos are useful to everybody ..
do'nt want to hijack the topic but as i wrongly identified that very figure with a cossack (stupid me :))...may i ask you, please, if a cossack horsemen, possibly for the Russian conquest of Central Asia during more or less same period, could be dressed similarly?..that to say with white hat, green tunic and similar trousers? (which color?)..i ask you that because, aware of the fact that no regular cavalry saw service in Central Asia,  i would like to have a second alternative to the iconic mounted cossacks in white tunic, white hat and red campaign trousers that you kindly show us in a dedicated post..
many thanks

With a normal (not marching Central Asian uniform), the Cossacks would look something like this:

thanks Cuprum..i was thinking at this very green which is iconic for Russian troops of 19 c...but could those green uniforms also be seen in Central Asia..possibly completed  with high riding boots and white peaked caps?
something like this picture from a US manufacture that i ve found on the the web:

This is the prescribed uniform. In a combat situation, soldiers (and often officers) wear what is practical and convenient (well, or what is available). Especially the Cossacks, who made or purchased uniforms at their own expense. So why not. But I have yet to see any evidence of such options.

These are some photos of some converted Perry Miniatures FPW French artillerymen into Russian Russo-Turkish War artillery men.

Good idea on useing the FPW French.
