Black Tree Design Miniatures
« on: March 08, 2023, 07:39:28 PM »
All the other threads appear closed, with only bad reviews about this company.

I have had several emails from them offering figures in various sales, some hinting that they had cleaned up their act.  I placed a small order of Historical Figures I needed to complete ranges.  Given what has happened in the past I was not holding any great hope.  However within two and a half weeks my full order arrived(Only£29 worth).

This was a UK order not US, I am pleased but given past history will wait and see, it does give some hope to wargamers who like the figures but not the past service.

I'm glad you received your order, however, I'm not interested in giving poor companies a second chance - regardless of value.  I've had a suitably bad experience with them in the past and thus they're off the list.

Mostly I'm disappointed that since re-doing their site they no longer offer the full range of miniatures they did.
particularly their dwarf line has lost a few units I wanted to buy more of

I finally received this week a few packs of Afrika Korps I ordered from them at the beginning of November…..only taken them four months….they must be pulling themselves together! 😉

"their dwarf line has lost a few units "

I think some of the line may have been acquired here:

https://www.seb-games.com/store/product-category/battle-havoc/kingdoms-of-dwarves/

Certainly the musketeers and hammerers appear to be there.

Thank you for the most useful link. But this only solve half the mystery.

BTD used to sell 2 different lines of "Ironclad dwarfs"
One is the same as the ones in your link.

The other was sold as a regiment of 20 (I think) figures that while having an entry, never had a picture on their website. I've messaged BTD about it a few times, never getting am answer.

I messaged the guy who managed the stunties wiki years ago and all I got was him wanting to make an offer to buy mine since he never saw them before.
I also remember finding a regiment of them for sale on some polish auction site.

But never found much more about them

I have attached an old picture that shows the ones I'm talking about. It's the ones that are clad in metal starting from the second rank.

I believe EOE Orbis is the American branch of Black Tree. I don’t know all the details, but they appear to be a separate company run by different people, but producing and selling the same lines in the US. I’ve had universally good experiences ordering from them, unlike their UK counterparts.

Yes, EOE Orbis is perfectly fine to deal with.

Fascinating. I don't remember having seen those dwarfs before.

Somewhere I have a Black Tree Miniatures catalogue on paper from back when they did them, I wonder if there's pictures of them in there. I'll see if I can dig it out.

Now. That is interesting. This stapled catalogue lists two sets, but doesn't have pictures:

FA77942 Dwarf Ironclads (18)
FA7951 Ironclad Dwarves (18)

The catalogue design is listed as 2002, by Dean Edwards who is still the UK side of the company I think.

I'm sure I have loose leaf catalogue pages from earlier somewhere but I can't locate them.

Gotta step in and say my bad experience was with Black Tree Design in the U.S. (i.e. EOE Orbis or whatever).  So not "completely fine".
