Steampunk Airship Build (Updated 05/04/23)
« on: March 19, 2023, 06:19:27 PM »
For a very long time, I have wanted to expand by British Steampunk Army with some sort of airship.

After much doodling, I have finally started. I will use a 2 litre plastic bottle as the dirigibles and have had some mdf cut to make a "girder" effect frame around the bottle.

I am going to try to wrap fabric around the bottle so have added masking tape to maybe make the fabric stick better, we will see.

Ooh; the use of that bottle with tape is an excellent one indeed!  8)

The girders look good, but I can't yet quite imagine how they will work with the bottle. Guess I'll be following this thread then ;)

As an aside; I just finished watching the Prime series Carnival Row, (a Victorianesque setting with steampunk elements and Fae creatures; it's a really compelling watch)   and it has some really cool airships in it. Quite different from your cilindrical iteration, but especially the gondola's, which have bomb racks and gatling guns, might be of interest :)

Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

It was from watching Carnival Row and Arcane that got me thinking about this project again.

Very different!
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

I have tried to work out the positioning of the dirigibles over what will be the hull. Apart from the two halves of each dirigible girder section, the rest of it is not glued yet.

I do not like the way I have joined the two dirigibles and so I am getting some different connectors cut.

I am also thinking about making both the sides a bit longer.

Coming together nicely 8)

The dual sigars remind me of a certain type of warship in the Perry Rhodan series!

I have changed the way the two dirigibles will connect together, much better I think. Sometimes, less is more.
