9th Bengal Cavalry turbans
« on: April 01, 2023, 02:06:52 PM »
Hi All

I have this photo of 9th Bengal Cavalry at  Suakin in 1885 (in Brian Robson’s Fuzzy Wuzzy). I am wondering about the colour of the turbans. These are captioned as officers; would officers’ and OR’s turbans be the same?

Cheers
JJ

We may have some guidance on this, courtesy ‘Earl Cardigan’ on the Colonial Wargaming group:

here is some uniform dated 1900 of 9th Bengal lancers,
Carman book does not report the colors of the turban, he only specifies that the lungi is blue.
.
hope is of some help.

Thank you!

All information gratefully received.

The trooper’s turban seems to have a much closer / denser pattern of stripes.
