Help finding a Rules Set
« on: 30 March 2023, 04:19:32 AM »
It was quite a while ago and either Wargames Illustrated or Miniature Wargames published them in their magazine. They were a fairly simple set of rules and I think, Victorian era. The exact same rules were published again by the magazine 2 or 3 issues forward. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Well an exhaustive search of Miniature Wargames has determined they were not the publishers. That means Wargames Illustrated holds the rule set somewhere in their volumes!

It's not ringing any bells. How long ago roughly is "quite a while"?

It's not the set by the Perrys is it?

Don't know the name I'm afraid.

Was it sifi, horror, Colonial, ACW, FPW, what scale?

How long ago was it, last year, few years, 10 yrs ago..., was it one of the A4 Pamphlet rules they do, like Death in The Dark continent Lite?

Could it be Wargames Soldiers and Strategy?

I wish I could give a more accurate time frame.  So far my search has come to nothing. It's nothing from the Perry's or a separate A4. I had not thought of WS&S. I thought they were Victorian Era or maybe, Toy Soldier rules. I have a lot more Wargames Illustrated to go through and if I can't find them, I'll search WS&S.

Any chance you are talking about any of the WI skirmish game reviews or included in the magazine: "In Her Majesty's Name," "Death in the Dark Continent Lite," or "Blam! Blam! Aargh!?"

Be a bit of a trawl and the coverage can be spotty, but this might help:

Do let us know if and when you find it. Aroused my curiosity.

After an exhaustive, and I do mean exhaustive, search I've found the rules set I've been looking for. Going all the way back to 1998/1999 the rules were "19th Century Skirmish Rules" by Graham Harrison published in the 16 Oct-10 Dec 1998 issue and republished in the February 5th 1999 issue of...Practical Wargamer!
