Sci-fi vehicles, please?
« on: October 29, 2009, 08:20:15 PM »
I don't know why, but I am having great trouble finding suitable sci-fi vehicles. I'm really looking for anything pulpy and not entirely serious, but could also do with a couple of more "hard" sci-fi pieces, and particularly something that would pass as a Deathglider from Stargate.

I have looked through those produced by Old Crow, Games Workshop, Scotia-Grendel, Pig Iron, some of Tobsen's stuff and even foolishly glanced at the ones from Blue Moon.

Would the collected wisdom of the LAF be able to point me in the direction of anything I may have missed? If there's the response I'm hoping for, could we even make this thread a sticky?

Pretty please?   :D

Seriously though JB have you considered converting a Klingon Bird of Prey kit or perhaps something Romulan or even Star Wars?

There's also

http://www.toposolitario.es/workshop/index.html

which has some beautiful models on it... I only just discovered the site so I haven't made any yet, but there's some great looking stuff.

What kind of things are you looking for? Is it just flyers or are you looking for all sorts of sci-fi vehicle?

These are pretty solid from the pics online:

There seem to be a lot of things in the works as well that there aren't pics of yet.

There´s also a number of resin Scifi vehicles from The Baggage Train (LINK); I gather those are the models previously sold by Marbeth Designs. Look a bit crude and may require quite some work to be passable, but the company will apparently be present at Fiasco, so I´ll take a look and probably purchase one of the cheaper ones if they are nice; but judging from the online pics, I´d rather go with the Old Crow stuff, which is positively cool and of superb quality (I own one of their 28mm rocket launcher vehicles and helped assemble/paint a number of their 15mm stuff).

As for the Deathglider, there is (or was) a 1/35th scale model by Warp Designs (review here), which is really expensive, and I think there also was an unlicensed model in ca. 1/56th scale, but I cannot remember who made it.

It would, however, not be too difficult to make, especially if you make some concessions with the wings (flat instead of a Bernouilli-effective curve) and sculpt the body out of putty.

Baggage Train is intriguing but frustrating - how do they expect to sell products without pics?  >:(

Might I suggest a couple of gems from Alpha Forge?

The Hydrissian "Gorgon"

A great 'single person' flyer.

And the Dart-Wing attack bike:

Both fantastic models, IMHO.

Anything I may have missed before that might fire my imagination, tanks, buggies, bikes, flyers whatever.
