New gang leaders for 'The Chicago Way'.
« on: April 15, 2023, 03:24:41 PM »
Yes, it's show season again, which means that Great Escape Games have released some new gangs for 'The Chicago Way', who will be available at Salute on the 22nd April.

First up are their 'Peaky Blinders' (who, being a historical gang, aren't copyrighted apparently!), and here is their ruthless Brummy leader (who probably would be copyrighted if I tried to name him).

Also included are the 'Bootleggers', and here is their dapper leader in a sharp suit.

'Sir John ejaculated explosively, sitting up in his chair.' ... 'The Black Gang'.

Nice job on those.  Well done!

I'm in the process of painting Empress' Brummie Mafia (their Peaky Blinders guys) to use with my US gangster stuff.  I may have to check these guys out...

Thanks guys, I did these last year, but Great Escape Games decided to delay release until this year so I've kept them under wraps till now. Very lovely figures they were to paint I must say.

Yeah, I wonder if Empress releasing their own just before GEG could persuaded them to hold fire. This is them under 'New Arrivals', they've done a better job at photographing the models than I did, rather annoyingly - https://www.greatescapegames.co.uk/

Nice painting but that plaid suit is something special! Flash but still understated.
Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.

Thanks - I always say that any sort of plaid or check pattern is essentially quite simple, it just takes ages. I always treat it just like a geometric repetition (as it is), use thin paint, a thin brush, go slow and try to keep the spacing between lines fairly even. Making the colour (yellow in this case) a little more intense when the lines cross helps with the effect. Because I had a photo to work from, I was able to see little details that I wouldn't have thought of, like the pattern being at a different angle on the lapels and pocket flaps.
