Roman Auxiliary Shields
« on: April 16, 2023, 07:03:16 AM »
Besides Foundry and Warlord, does anyone sell the flat oval Imperial Roman Auxiliary Shields on their own?

Also, anyone know if the metal auxiliary shields Warlord sells are the same size as the ones that come with their plastic Auxiliary figures?

Thanks

As far as I can judge they are the ame size as the transfers (decals) fit perfectly on both.  The Auxiliary cavalry metal shields also take the same transfers.  The central boss on the metal shield is different to that on the plastic ones as it lacks the ring with 4 studs.

Thanks both for the help.  I also found that Gripping Beast sells shields on their own.

First corps, A&A and gripping beast from memory

No the metal and plastic warlord shields are different sizes, about 1mm and with different shield boss, the decals fit both though.

Cheers

It can be worth using late Roman oval shields if you aren't looking for specific transfers.

Here are a few other places to get appropriate shields and some are cheap to boot. Might have to use 3V transfers for them rather than LBMS due to the lack of the latter. I've included postage because just ordering a pack of shields can become prohibitive when shipping is factored in.
Newline Designs - 10 for £1.50, postage £1.50 or 10% of order value.
A&A - 24 for £3.65, postage is a flat rate of £2.50 LBMS makes transfers for these!
Lancashire Games 16 for £5.50, postage is £4.00 or 10% of the order value. Might be a tad small at 25mm? They do have embossed shields though.
Irregular also have some listed as oval but I haven't seen them. 12 for £2.64 with free shipping on orders over £20, £2 otherwise.
Agema - 3 shields for 75p, shipping is £3.80 or 12% of the order total. this one is a little outside as they're plastic and they're technically thureos but if you think they'd work they might be a cheap option if you are getting a bunch of them.
