Starting Frostgrave... new board pictures p2
« on: April 17, 2023, 01:27:56 PM »
I know I am late to the party but I have just bought the Frostgrave rules and Perilous Dark / Breeding Pits.

I have a lot of unpainted Repaer Bones miniatures from too many kickstarters and I decided I really need to start doing something with them.  Initially I might use my Dungeon terrain (Ainsty tiles) to play a couple of games but I have also started 3d printing the Ulvheim files from Thingiverse to create a Frostgrave table.

First prints:

Reaper figure for scale.

Now I need to sort through the Bones figures and make up a couple of warbands and start painting...

The bones KS's will serve you well for both warbands and random encounters.  Glad that you joined the party.  The game is swingy but fun.  If you were local to us I would invite you to our local club for a go but methinks the distance is too far.

Sadly you are probably right about the distance, but many thanks for the offer.

I have rebased the very few Bones I have managed to paint so far:

A couple of wizards, stone golem construct, a knight and some other specialists probably.

I came across a white marble effect table cloth in B&M yesterday. I actually thought it might be useful for a Winter game.( Did think Frost Grave.) It was in two sizes ( never got to check as We were in the line for the till . But it did look sturdy enough for gaming.) They were £5,and £8 respectively.

Sounds interesting - I've decided to make 1' tiles so I can swap things around a little and ordered some XPS tiles from Firedragon Games.

Also ordered some bits of Amera terrain to produce some bigger pieces.

Printed off more UlvHeim pieces:

Test drybrushed and snowed up a small ruin piece.  Has come out okay, I think.

Those ruins are looking wonderful. I wish I had a 3D printer

I’ve just started too as my youngest son expressed an unexpected interest. Scenery looks good. I’m using insulation foam ☹️. What did you use for snow effects? I’ve used baking soda previously.

I am using Galeria Acrylic Modelling Paste - bought a fairly large pot from Hobby Craft for £9.  It dries hard and can be sanded.

Also I have a large container of Woodland Scenics snow from an old project so I am using that mixed with PVA and water and then fresh snow sprinkled on that for basing and some snow effects.

I am trying to go for a few patches of melting snow look rathe than a deep blanket of white.

I found this temple in a box while looking for some other things.  I made it over 20 years ago for a Dinosaur Hunting participation game in Darkest Africa run at Valhalla...

I've sprayed it and snowed it up a little to use in Frostgrave.

Makes sense. Thanks.

If you want it to come off as more slushy mellting snow try mixing it with gloss medium instead of PVA.  With the WS snow it works a treat.
