Battle for the Peking Duck
« on: April 24, 2023, 02:10:02 AM »
A couple of weeks ago we decided to take a break from our usual ACW2 style Interwar games to try a game set in 1930s China.  The antagonists were a force of Japanese Special Naval Landing Force (SNLF) and some Bolsheviks led by the communist renegade Vladimir Sunofabichski pitted against the dreaded Chinese warlord Chuk Fu with some White Russan mercenaries.  Due to the size of the forces involved the battle was shaping up to be a fairly standard meeting engagement so I pulled a pre-painted duck out of my figure box and made it the objective of Chuk Fu who wanted it for his dinner.  The battle opened with an exchange of fire by both sides which the SNLF were initially winning due to their superior firepower but the Chinese were able to seize the wooded area in the middle of the table.  Once this occurred a close range melee developed in the woods and eventually they were able to use their greater numbers to prevail (helped by a lucky victory in an armored car duel against my newly painted Type 92 armored car).  Once this occurred the SNLF and Bolsheviks withdrew (but not before killing the hapless Chuk Fu).  BTW the Peking Duck survived.

Looks like fun! It’s not many pictorial AARs I search through muttering “nice miniatures………interesting setting……..now, where’s that duck?…..duck, duck, duck………..oh there it is, brilliant!” Like a wargaming themed, avian Where’s Wally (Waldo for our trans Atlantic friends). I then looked up to see my wife looking worriedly at me! lol

Thank you, I hope the game was as enjoyable as the duck hunt. I need to find some 15mm equivalents for my table.

Nice one - SNLF have always fascinated me for some reason, and I have some 54mm conversions painted but they have yet to get into battle. This all looked great.

Looks like Chuk Fu ate lead in place of the duck that got away. Thanks for sharing looks like it was a fun game.

I found the duck!

Those Friday Night Irregulars are irregular in many ways.   lol

Went by Friday past and there was some sort of Musketeers verses more or less anyone else.  Even a very flamboyant Count of Monte Cristo who was apparently a bit of overly bad ass opponent.

[I think when I get my musketeers going I will need to paint up a figure as the Count of Mount Crisco.  ;)]

It took me a minute, but I too found the bespoke duck.

As for Chuk Fu's fate, remember what Mr. T always said on The A team:  "I pity the Fu..." 8)
