40K train set
« on: November 18, 2023, 05:52:10 PM »
The Boy, the Grandad and I went to the local model railway society show today. We go every year as its a great place to pick up specialist tools (we all need a tiny anvil), and some of the layouts are pretty damn stunning.

Just so happened though, that today one of the displays was a working Adeptus Mechanicus freight yard, complete with lights, remote control doors and working rolling stock.

As the Boy has just discovered 40K he was rapt with it, all the more so when they let him drive the train.

I've attached a couple of pics, they don't really do it justice but hopefully give a flavour of it and perhaps some inspiration.

as a lifelong model railroader, there's a lot worse hobbies he could have.

and what with Christmas right around the corner . . . .

Yes it is. Still on tomorrow if you feel like dropping by.

It has inspired the Boy to look into an AdMech army as his next project, and he has said he'd like to try and build something similar to display them on. I've told him he'll need to build an extension on the house first, but I don't think it's put him off...

As a not railway-modeler I have one question. Are that H0 tracks? Or is it 0 gauge?
Thanks in advance.  :)

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the tracks were H0/00 gague. They seemed quite small compared to the Citadel kits and figures. Plus the rhino they made the engine out of is seriously cut down in size.

A very cool display 8)

With all of that Citadel terrain, I'm sure it wasn't cheap to build either...

Absolutely gorgeous! Always fun to see the more “human” side of 40k, and the diorama is fantastic.

Love the look of that one. There's a good bit of room in on the 40k universe (and sci Fi gaming in general) for railway modeling, but it so rarely gets done.
