The Queen's own skywalkers!
« on: November 07, 2009, 02:39:41 AM »

November 7th 1883.

Lord Harrington looked at his watched, 8 o'cock in the morning. He wrapped his scarf more tightly around his neck and wished he was back in his office at the Foreign office in Whitehall, having his first cup of tea for the day and maybe a couple of those terrific ecceles cakes Mrs Sunderland made. The morning mist lay in thick streaks across Salisbury plain and the wind had an icy bite heralding a cold winter ahead. He looked skyward and surveyed the dark clouds above and thought whether they held yet more rain or maybe sleet. Either prospect seemed to darken his already bad mood.

Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly
down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red
Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture,
torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals.

Hoping these brave young men will be something more than Prussian target practice?

They look great, but shouldn't the flags have been on the underside? for people to see when they are on the fly...

I have a squad of those too, but mine seems to tip over constantly...

really sweet unit
I guess the wing paint goes with plane cammo - sky colour on the underside, and at the same time the grey of the Sudan campaign uniform....

Nice idea to do the wings like that. I also have a unit, but mine and languishing in the lead pile awaiting inspiration to paint them, which you may have just provided!

Very nice unit, mine are also in the awaiting to be done pile, I have got them out a couple times tried to mount them on some fancy flying bases only for them to go back into the box. I like the wing paint scheme

Thanks for the great comments :)

This unit was a lot of work. Each wing had to be pinned and the painting took a long time. I agonised over the wing detail. I considered a basic metal drybrush, then a RFC green with roundels then one day I looked at the layout of the wing and thought that they looked a bit like a quarter of a union jack so I decided to go with that. It was a bugger to paint with a lot of masking and touch ups but the end result was well worth it. Needless to say I won't be doing another unit any time soon!

Cheers
Fuzzy. :)

Nice work. I love the painting on the wings.

I have some of these too, that are eager to get onto my painting table  :)
