WotR imagery is often awash with flags, and as I had just the one bannerman I decided I needed a few more.

The full army has the commander (HERO), two foot leaders, and a mounted leader (DOLT, who won’t have a banner). Thus, 3 bannermen on foot:

I’ve also assembled the mounted alternates for the commander, his bannerman and his trumpeter, and it was a lot of fun finding the parts to match up the minis.

I also matched the styles of the other two bannermen to the leaders they’d be accompanying.

Finally, each of the leaders is a son of the commander, so their banners will be similar (perhaps one with 2 red feathers and the other with 3), though the hierarchical status will be identified by cadency devices.

None of the foregoing will make much of a difference as to how the army plays on the battlefield, but they’ll certainly be prettier  :D.

Thanks chaps and my apologies for not replying sooner. Somehow I missed your replies.

Anyways, painting has started on the next batch of minis while I’ve also started to create a town. I already have a village, which looks like this:

….. but I’m really taken by Graham Turner’s paintings of St Albans and Bishopsgate, and so would like a medieval town. My existing village doesn’t lend itself to expansion so I’ve settled on a town that is derived from a part of medieval St Albans. My imaginary town of Hawfield will be constructed on A4 sheets of 4mm MDF, with 3 buildings to a sheet, with the sheets laid out to represent/create the streets. I will need 9 such sheets for the bulk of the town layout, which suggests completion will be some time off.

To start me off, the bulk of the buildings are resin casts by Oshiro Models, with levels and other parts mixed about for variation. With two Oshiro models per tile, the third (in the middle) will be scratch built by me. I’ve laid out the first tile and started on the second, with more buildings on order to complete the first three tiles.

When laid out on the gaming table, the rear gardens of the building plots will be further delineated by hedges.

For those not familiar with Graham Turner’s work, his late medieval paintings can be seen (and purchased in various forms) from here:

His urban scenes are a motivator/influence for my town project, such as:
