Cthulhu villagers
« on: 09 April 2007, 09:45:28 PM »
I recently got some of West Winds new Weird WWII figures and added a    pack of their 40's French civilians to use as... well... 40's French civilians...

However, upon holding them in my hands, I noticed how creepy they all look. I immediately pictured them as the inhabitants of some secluded village, standing motionless and staring with blank faces at some hapless stranger who just walked in to investigate some mysterious reports...

Or maybe I have too much imagination...

It´s not your vivid imagination. Or at least, it´s working FOR you in this case. :D

I´d rather have them scared stiff by a nameless horror than some SS goons.

I agree. The blank look on all their faces would make them great "soulless villagers" in some old New England town.

As a rule i'm not a fan of West Wind and i haven't really been paying attention to their WWII minis...obviously this has been a mistake. I really like these. Off to their website I go.

Many of the older West Wind figures are what I would call "overanimated" (like many of the Old Glory figures).  But these poses are very nice.

They officially have three WW2 ranges, though in effect, it's more like four:
- Berlin or bust old (small) figures (most people don't like these)
- Berlin or Bust new (bigger) figures (recognisable by the white background in the pictures)
- Separate head system WW2, where these villagers are from (although oddly they don't come with separate heads)
- Secrets of the Third Reich (alternative WW2)

Never cared about their WWII figures but I agree; Especially the children look very scary.

"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

Need more kids. Paint their eyes weird and give them white hair and you've got "Village of the Damned."

Just need George Sanders in 28mm then.

I think Poly's avatar is what's happened to him lately--he's been under the thrall of sinister blonde-headed kiddies. Seriously, where the hell have you been?

Going back to the villagers, I'd paint their skin tones gray. CREEEEEEPY Gray.

I ain't been anywhere, Pete. Not anywhere interesting, at any rate. I've just been on a TMP-induced* serious downer for a while, completely uninterested in anything gaming-related.

But thanks to concerned TMPer Donald "Synflood" sending me a link to his latest Russo-Turkish War battle report in 54mm (or 43mm, 62mm or some other equally godless, barbaric and uncivilised scale) to pick me up; and "Zulu", "Khartoum" and "The Blue Max" all being on British telly over the Easter weekend; I'm now totally recharged and inspired again, and am raring to go.

*I still can't go back to TMP for anything other than a quick scan of the Hobby News. Seriously, visiting the Discussion Boards makes me want to punch people, which can't be healthy.
