AWI Slightly Larger Live Free or Die AAR
« on: May 13, 2023, 05:59:07 PM »
Our most recent game has been AWI using Live Free or Die which we like. It was larger than usual with over a dozen units per side, write up and lots of pictures on my blog here:  https://gapagnw.blogspot.com/2023/05/a-larger-live-free-or-die-battle-aar.html

Great battle and AAR!  I like close games, with all that to and fro.  Well done!

Great looking table.  What do you like best about the rules.  I am currently use the AWI variant of fire and fury.
Thanks

Thats a bit of an inadequate answer so let me try add a bit.

Firing for trained troops is equal as you might expect so the Crown forces, unless they outnumber Patriots need to get stuck in, they are unlikely to win a fire fight, Militia get less firing dice which I am happy with. Morale and command and control are the key ones. to pass a morale test a unit must roll a 5 or 6 o a d6. The better the troops the more dice they roll looking for a 5 or 6, British Grenadiers might get 4 dice, poor quality Militia just one making them as brittle as you might expect. retreating units can impact other units leading to a degree of unravelling, whilst frustrating for e player this again feels accurate. Generals have command points, the better the general the more points to spend. These represent both the quality of the commander and the quality of his staff and their ability to keep things moving. if troops begin to get split up keeping control of them becomes increasingly difficult, again this feels right. My two criticism are that units hang about after being decimated, they just keep retreating as they fail morale and that charges are very costly in command points making them rare and difficult. Both are easily solved though.

Does that help?
