Wars of Insurgency game "Congo, Bloody Congo"
« on: June 30, 2023, 10:55:18 PM »

Katangan gendarmes move out through the outskirts of town, hoping to link up with the ammunition convoy being driven by the European mercenaries

I ran a 4-player game using my modern skirmish rules, "Wars of Insurgency" at a local convention (Origins Game Fair 2023) in Columbus, Ohio. It is a scenario I've run a few times before at other shows. This con being a mostly board and role playing convention, I managed to recruit only 4 players. I trimmed the scenario a bit and it worked out great.

The APCs begin to move across the table through the fields of fire of the Congolese and UN forces

The scenario is a fictional one from the period of The Congo's struggle for independence. It is during the time of the Katanga Secession crisis, specifically when the United Nations became actively involved in the shooting war and trying to put down the breakaway province's bid for independence.

Read about the scenario and see LOTS more pictures on my Lead Legionaries blog:

Sounds like a good game, Mike.

Based on your game reports on this scenario, your game at Drums in which I played where we really did a number (relatively speaking) on the APCs might have been a high-water mark.... 8)

Thanks, everyone, for the kind comments. Glad to hear people are reading the blog. It's a lot of work but it is a fun outlet to document the things I do.

Jim - I have been slightly downgrading the mercenary force in my OOBs for each successive time running it. This game had the potential to knock out a second APC, but the initiative roll did not cooperate.

Nice game.  Great to see some more Africa action.  Lovey armies and terrain.
