Scale of Great War Minis vs Brigade Games WW1 Range?
« on: May 27, 2023, 07:17:23 PM »
Hey guys, so I'm looking at the amazing selection of 28mm miniatures that Brigade Games provides for the First World War, but noticed that the troops for Germany and Great Britain are from Great War Miniatures's range, unlike all the other nations which are sculpted by Brigade Games themselves. Does anyone own both? If so, would you be able to tell me if/how the figures from Brigade Games and Great War Minis compare in size, scale, and proportions? Thanks guys, and I'm glad to have finally joined the forum!

Hello, thestoats and welcome aboard!  I apologise that I don't have any photos to share, but I have many figures from both Brigade Games and GWM, and I have no issues with putting them on the same table.

Brigade Games is particularly wonderful for providing forces for areas a little off the beaten path, including Great War in Africa, and for the longest time the only source of a WWI French 75mm field gun!

I have numerous German figures from both manufacturers and they fit alongside each other very well.  The one exception I would make is the Brigade Games maxim machine gun, which is much too thick in the barrel (use the Great War minis for that - I also prefer Great Wars MG08-15 and Lewis Gun).  Otherwise they are quite comparable and mix well together.

Brigade Games also still sell some packs from the old Renegade range; these are slightly taller than Brigade and Great War, and the detail is a little more crude, but otherwise not a bad match (being taller, I use them as Guardsmen for both sides).  There's also Scarab Miniatures - a little "off the wall" in that they are mainly Austro-Hungarian, but some nice little sets (eg 2 observers with binoculars on tripods) and could be used for Germans at a pinch.
No plan survives first contact with the dice.

In all the size comparison pictures I have seen, the Scarab Miniatures loom over the other ranges mentioned and have enormous hands.
