10 Weeks 100 Miniatures
« on: May 28, 2023, 03:52:19 AM »
In real life I'm a high school social studies teacher and I just ended the 22-23 school year. During the year I have minimal time to paint so I've set myself the goal of knocking 100 miniatures off the pile during my 10 week break.

I've got around 40 figs assembled and ready to go and I plan to stick the rest together as the weeks progress.

I paint up a lot of 28mm fantasy (I'm a bug Frostgrave fan and would love to get Oathmark on the table this summer as well) but to kick things off I've gone in a completely different direction and primed up some BattleTech mechs.

I'm trying a new technique, the kids call it Slapchop these days. I primed black, hit it with a grey zenathal from above and dry brushed a lighter grey and then a white dry brush.

Painting these up as Grey Death Legion

Given how fast I paint, 100 weeks = 10 miniatures!

I have just started my own slap-chop journey, so I'm curious to see how you get on.

You do seem to have a lot more white on your figures than I ended up with after drybrushing. However, I didn't do any zenithal spray, just light grey and white drybrushes.

Good luck with the project

I have this (unofficial) goal that I have set for myself: painting 100 28mm (or equivalent) miniatures each year. I've worked towards this goal for many years now and have made the mark a grand total of 1 times. To be fair, I did come (very) close several years though.

So I know how hard it is to reach such a goal, and to do it in just 10 weeks is both ambitious and inspiring. Therefore I wish you all the best in your endeavour! :)

...They need several more coats of looking at

So true!  lol lol
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Slapchop would then have a wash or contrast paint applied over the top.  What you have at the minute is good old fashioned dry brushing.  Perhaps a dilute blue would look good on what you have done?

Can't help with the figures, outside of my area.  But reading this thread was well worth it:

"They need several more coats of looking at."  Ain't that the ever lovin' truth!  :)

As to 100 miniatures in 10 weeks.  You can do it.  Just a matter of focus and dedication.  Only challenge is real life intrusions and 'mojo' going on vacation.  "Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments," Jim Rohn (sp?) quote.  If that mojo monster creeps in, apply discipline.   ;)

Despite real life (I coach American football and summer is when we start ramping up for the fall season) trying to prevent me from reaching my goal I've managed to finish mini's # 1, 2, 3 and 4.

These are the mechs from the first post with one coat of citadel contrast paint (Basillicum Standard Grey) a little dry brushed edge highlights and the red unit symbol. The skull is a water slide transfer.

My favorite was definitely the Marauder.

and of course the humble Urban Mech

Next up its back to form with some 28mm fantasy.

These are Oathmark goblin wolf riders combined with GW goblin heads and arms so they fit in with the rest of my collection.  Hoping to get these guys done by Friday.

Life as ever conspires to keep me away from the painting table so I'm behind the pace early on.

I did manage to wrap of figures # 5.6.7.8 and 9 today. A kitbash of GW and Oathmark goblins. The heads and arms and quivers are all GW  whole the bodies, legs and wolves are from the Oathmark goblin riders kit. They mesh very well and in terms of size fit in between the old GW goblin world riders and the new Aos kits. I have all three types and can mix and match in the units.

Up next a random assortment of beats for my Frostgrave bestiary.
